Question about 2000 Jeep Cherokee

2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport Engine Light

I have had my vehicle for five year.  In the last two years it has been cycling the engine light on and off a couple of weeks at a time.  I have had it into my mechanic several times for this and he tells me the same thing every time, it is showing a "Small EVAP leak".  He says that he has had it on the smoke machine and cannot find anything.  He replaced my charcoal filter a mont ago and the light came right back on less than a week being out of the shop.  The light has been on for over a month straight at this point.  Can there be another solution that he is missing?

If he really is smoke testing it he must not be looking to hard. im assuming hes using smoke that has dye in it. if not find someone who does and have them recheck it using a black light. the leak will become visible at that point

That is your check engine light. It signals that your jeep needs service, that something is wrong with your vehicle. Have it checked.

Have the car scanned for free @ your local auto parts.. An engine could be anything.. Usually emissions related.. When the light comes on the vehicals computer records the problem and then produces a NON-user code that can only be read with special equiptment.. The only why you'll even know there's an engine code is when the computer gives you a service light.. Don't need an expert this stuff has been common knowledge for 30+ years.. A car is a piece of expensive equipment and should ALWAYS be treated as such...

Service engine light keeps coming on in motor.

It's going to keep coming on, until you have it diagnosed and possibly repaired.
Service Lights have been on vehicles for 30 years, you should know what to do by now.
You have a possible system malfunction. Those lights are govt mandated,so you repair your vehicle as soon as possible ,and don't polute the air

2000 jeep cherokee sport...can I check the engine codes by cycling ignition switch?

if so just turn the key to run position ( not start) then one click back. Do this a total of 3 times ending in the run ( or on; not start) position. The odometer will display the code(s) or in an older model the check engine light will flash out the code. Have your pen and paper ready to jot down the results.

Check that all battery cables are clean and tight.

Check the date/age of battery, and compare to the rated life of the battery. If anywhere near the end of the rated life, suspect the battery. Suspect battery if all terminals are clean and tight.

Coolant fan not turning and air conditioner blows out hot air.

Re-check the relay to make sure it's still good, then check the fan by hot wiring it to the battery. Also check the temp sensor on the engine. If the check light is on, don't drive it 'till you find out why or you can damage the engine.
