thank you toyota ed. I dont think I will go through the trouble; I know a little about shims and it is more trouble than it is worth doing! Thank You!

The valves are adjusted by insering different thicknesses of shims. This is not something you want to do, unless you really have a valve issue.

these don't have diesels, hence this is not a USA model and we have no info.

Additionally, if you know about shims, you know that if you need a .345, it is possible that the .345 is not obtainable, the possibilities available could be either .340 and a .350 ...
(rough numbers)

Then, you need to pull the head, and let a machine shop do it the hard way.

If the valves aren't clacking all of the time, leave them alone.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice.

Here is a copy from Autozone. Toyota Ed Is correct. It is something that unless you really know what you are doing, PASS!
It is not the easiest, and is time consuming, so if it works don't fix it!,2594301/initialAction,repairGuide/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c152801a8da8

How do you adjust the valves

you need to state which engine you have. Sometime in the 90's a lot of Toyota motors went to a shim system for valve adjustment so the usual simple valve adjustment techniques are not used. Job for a dealer or toyota specialist shop. You need to have a good reason to adjust them anyway. What is the compression in each cylinder./Are the valves burned?

Can the valves be adjusted on a 1996 Toyota Camry 2200 (number on the valve cover)

Yes they can but you will need a couple of special tools. This style of valve adjustment is Called a shim an bucket. First the valve to cam clearance needs to be measured. Then if that measurement is out of spec you will need to use. Couple of special tools to compress the valve so that the shim can be removed. Once the shim is out you will need to measure it's thickness with a micrometer than figure out the correct size replacement. The replacement will need to be purchased from the dealer. These are not easy or DIY friendly. I can give you more info if you think you want to tackle it.

I would like to know how to locate the spark plugs on my celica GT.

They are between the cams. On top of the engine there are 4 wire bundles in the center of the valve/cam cover connecting to the spark coils. Undo the connectors and remove the single bolt for each one. Lift up the spark coil assemblies and find the spark plugs in the bottom of the hole underneath good luck.

My celica is burning oil

Your car is probably burning oil through the piston rings due to wear. The valve cover gasket will show signs of leaking from the space between the valve cover and the head. Remove one of your spark plugs and see if it is black and oily. You can try using a little thicker oil than what you have now or just add a little in as it burns off. Buy a quart of name brand 20w/50 and use that to top off the oil as it burns off. You should notice a difference.

Is valve adjustments needed on 2000 camry V6 I am hearing noises that seems like coming from under valve cover, you can hear the noise from inside car,but not from outside of car. I was told this engine...

The valve adjustment usually isnt done unless there is valve noise. If you think its valve noise, have the dealer check it or a shop that does a LOT of Toyota work. Special tools and shims are needed to adjust the valves. Its a LOT of work and will not be cheap. You will want to replace the spark plugs at the same time.

Go to your auto parts store & buy a can of "brake cleaner". Remove the MAF and spray it until the wires are shiny.
Do not use compressed air, that will break the wires.
BTW, the cat is covered for 8 years, under warranty.
