Question about 1992 Ford Tempo

1 Answer

1993 Ford Tempo won't start

This is the 2nd winter for this to happen. The battary and Starter are new. When you turn the key once the dash lights up but when you turn to start it will click but not turn over. If you jump the car it will start and run for a few errarnd as long as you run in and out but then die again once it it turned off for more than 10 min. Not sure what it could be. A friend suggested the Neutral Safety Switch? THere cables to battery look good.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

The dash lights coming on doesn't mean your battery is strong enough to turn the car over. That being said, I would lean towards the starter also. I would just have the battery chkd out before you go replacing other things just to be sure. Good luck to you.

94 ford tempo wont start. is my silenoid stuck or do i need a new starter. It does click when i try to start it.

clean the battery terminals if it is multiple clicks when you turn the key. otherwise try tapping the starter and have someone start it at the same time. that will tell you if it is the starter.

89 Ford tempo won't turn over. Silinoid rapidly clicks and interior lights dim. I have cleaned all connections that I can find. I got it to turn over once , and start but not again since then. Also...

You might have a bad solenoid. I would try a new one. Or else what about your battery? Are you certain it is at full charge? Battery cables good and connected tight everywhere? If battery and cables are good, then it's probably the solenoid or the starter giving you problems.

The horn is not related at all. Usually a horn problem is with the switch in the steering wheel, but if you have an air bag, you'd better let someone fix or check it who has experience working around them and how to disable and handle them. I'm sure there are videos on youtube, that detail all these procedures- you can find almost anything on the internet, almost everything, might even be something for your Tempo.
The horn itself is always at the front of the car, maybe hidden behind the bumper, or on a brace around the radiator, behind the grill, just look in those places, but 9 times out of 10, the horn itself is good and it's the wheel switch or wiring or horn relay that is the problem.

My 1993 Ford Tempo (automobile) will not start when I turn the key. A clicking sound comes from the driver's side of the engine compartment. The pre-start charge begins, but then nothing.

Sounds like a battery problem. Get a jump and if the vehicle starts replace your battery. If the vehicle won't start using a jump have the starter solenoid checked.

No start condition new battery , good starter, turn key to start position light come on dash, go forward to start light go out and you hear click under dash area like relay, no power getting to starter....

no starter relay is always at the fuse relay box at the engine compartment. The relay that you hear is the relay for the accessories to turn off the power during starting position.

I had this problem once in an old Tempo and am experiencing it in my 1993 Aerostar. It was the headlight switch. It has a sort of coil inside that allows you to dim dash lights and turn on dome light. I could be wrong, but...hey..check it out ;)
