The coils have battery voltage running through the primary windings, and grounded in the ignition control module. The engine computer signals the ignition module when to cut the primary current, thereby inducing high voltage in the coil's secondary windings and spark at the spark plug. The computer processes all sensor information, but primarily from the crank position sensor, to determine spark timing.
Not sure I am following your story, but you need compression, spark at the right time, and fuel for the engine to start. If you know for a fact the plugs are firing, and you have compression, you may not have fuel at the injectors.
Unless the wires were removed the firing order cannot change as also the length of the wires do not permit that the wires switch over. All what is needed is to check the spark at each plug , if of low internsity check the ignition system including the HT coil. Also the fuel filter and the fuel pump for the right pressure.
You dont have spark, or no power to the coil? If you have power to the coil, but know spark, check the resistance in the coil, and the crank position sensor.
Below are the firing orders for 5.0L, 4.6L, 3.8L, and 2.3L late model
Mustangs. Remember to be very careful when checking your firing order
because the
ignition system on your car runs on very high voltage. Do not remove
spark plug wires from the distributor or spark plugs while the engine is
running.
Firing order sequences:
V8's 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
V6's 1-4-2-5-3-6
2.3L 1-3-4-2
Hope this help (remember comment and rated this) TY for using Fixya.
Timing is right, but the firing order is incorrect then it could not start. Make sure connection at the spark plug is in the firing order.
Let get back to the basic: need spark and fuel.
After several cranking, take plug # 1 out to see if it wet. If it is wet then you have fuel. If it is dry then you don't have fuel. Start to find out what is the root cause for fuel not coming.
Now touch the spark plug to the engine chassis and have a helper to start engine. If there is spark strong then you have spark. If no spark then you know what to do: find the root cause of the problem.
If you have spark and fuel then need to recheck timing by Top Dead Center: Piston #1 is up, mark at camshaft and 0 mark at crankshaft all line up together while intake and exhaust valve closed. Good luck.
may be your fuel nozzles are clogged did you checked tham ? or may be your fuel filter is clogged that prevents sufficent amount of fuel comming to your engine
start car, un-plug one spark plug wire at a time and you should hear and see a spark. that means that one is working fine, then go to the next if you dont see a spark from that one after unplugging then that one needs a coil.
