I am having the same thing - in turning the wheel it makes that straining noise and you can kind of feel it while holding the steering wheel. I called my dealer today and am taking the truck in on Friday as it could be one of a couple things; low on fluid, a leak, a pump or the rack & pinion............. I wouldn't say mine is real bad but you can hear it. Not sure what the costs are as you get into the pump and pinion. I have 73,000 approx. on it and have had the truck since Sept. 04 - no problems with it; do the regular oil change and tire rotating - a couple months back I had the first brake work done - pads and rotors - $175.

Put wrong fluid in power steering of Dodge Ram 1500 pickup. How to flush and refill? 2004 Ram 1500 4.7liter engine V8 Quadcab 4X4.

They make a machine to do this, but it is too expensive to buy for just one use. The best thing to do it to take off the power steering lines where the connect to the steering rack. Then start the truck and it will pump out the fluid in the reservoir. Feel free to keep adding fresh fluid to it while its running just to ensure all is out. Then, to get the fluid out of the steering box, connect the lines back up, fill the reservoir, and with the vehicle running, crank the steering wheel back and forth from lock to lock. This will take the fluid from the rack and eventually bring it back to the reservoir. You must then again disconnect the lines and flush it out of the reservoir. You may want to repeat this several times, it may take a long time, but will be cheaper than replacing the steering rack, box, pump, and lines. Good luck, and have fun. :-P

How do i change the power steering pressure switch on my 04 dodge ram 1500 hemi? I can't find it.

From the Factory Service Manual, you can get one relatively cheap from www.promanuals.net. Here is a link to your 2004 Dodge Ram Service Manual.

The power steering pressure switch is installed in
the power steering high-pressure hose (Fig. 9).

(1) Disconnect electrical connector from power
steering pressure switch.
(2) Place a small container or shop towel beneath
switch to collect any excess fluid.
(3) Remove switch. Use back-up wrench on power
steering line to prevent line bending.

MY SUGGESTION TO YOU IS THAT THERE IS NO REASON TO GO TO THE DEALER FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS BECAUSE IT WILL COST YOU 3X AS MUCH AS IT WOULD AT A PRIVATE SHOP.THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS THAT ONLY THE DEALER CAN HANDLE,BUT ANYONE CAN DO THIS ONE.IVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR 20 YEARS.
