99 Dodge Ram 2500 won't heat up

Changed the thermostat 3 times, last time put in a Dodge thermostat and no change, when you start it and let it sit for awhile, it seems warm, but when you get in and go it isn't warm anymore

I believe it is staying engaged but I can find out.

  • tablesurfer Jan 09, 2009

How would I know if it is staying engaged?

  • tablesurfer Jan 09, 2009

    It is a clutch fan.

  • tablesurfer Jan 09, 2009

It turns freely. Could the heater core be plugged?

  • tablesurfer Jan 09, 2009

there is a little bit of difference but not much

Is the engine fan staying engaged? If so this will not allow you to build addequate engine temp. especially while driving.

Is it a electric fan or just a set of blades?

  • Paul Broadhurst Jan 09, 2009

Just grab the fan with the engine off and try to spin. It should spin freely. If not then it is seized and will not allow you to build temp.

  • Paul Broadhurst Jan 09, 2009

That would be the next step. Check the temp difference between the two heater core hoses to see if there is a major difference between the two.

  • Paul Broadhurst Jan 10, 2009

We need to establish if the engine is building the proper temp. Hook up an external temp gauge to determine if the engine is building the proper temp. Also check the pressure that the cooling system is building by putting a pressure tester on the radiator and running the engine. I want to rule out a headgasket issue as well. Also follow the temp control cable from the dash to the valve and see if that is all working.

That means that number 3 cylinder is misfiring.I would start with replacing the sparkplugs and sparkplug wires first if they have not been changed in the last 50,000 miles or so.If that does not help then you will need to check the # 3 injector for pulse.

99 Dodge ram 2500 with cummins diesel stalled and won't restart. Changed fuel filter, and determined that there is fuel going to injector pump.

loosen one fuel line to one of the injectors, try to start the truck and look for the fuel to spray out of the line. it should spray rather hard if the injector pump is working right. if it just dribbles or trickles out you have a weak pump.

2001 Dodge ram -2500 automatic. transmission slow to engage, months later started not shifting into 3rd gear, then 1 months later slow to engage into 2nd , now only 1st gear......

sounds like filter could be clogged, if it hasn't been changed in a while. you can try to replace throttle position sencer, it is like your old trans kinkenge system, only now, it is elect. it tells trans when to shift, like your speed sencer on trans doe's. both can make it act like it is.

Did you check to see if there is power to the glow plugs if not then that may be the problem and if there is power when you cycle the key not to start but for the plugs to warm up you may have a bad glow plugs.
