Good idea to use 5W-30 synthetic motor oil for transfer case fluid. You can get it here:

How to change fluid:

Good Luck

ill guess, A/t for ATF fluid.
what to use, if car is still running, stock fluid, some are not.
ill read you the official service bull. TSB

4L30E/4L60E Transmission Fluid 2003 publ.

The correct fluid to use in all Isuzu vehicles equipped with the 4L30E or 4L60E automatic
transmissions is DEXRON®-III with a G-License Number (G-34318), Isuzu part number: 2-
90531-815-0 or equivalent (see figure 1).
When checking for correct fluid level, follow the procedures in the appropriate Workshop
Manual.
NOTE: Incorrect fluid or incorrect fluid level may cause shift complaints and/or transmission
damage.

that means use DEXRON VI now. DEX 6. what is seen on the shell NOW, 2016.
dex 3 is obsolete.

holds 18 pints, dry, fill
way less, simply drain in place. 6 pints falls out
if levels is ok now.
what you do measure what came out, drained and put back that exact amount.

Where is the ECM relay located on a 98 Isuzu Rodeo

Emission control mechanism or relay is either a vacuum plunger type or a relay switch electrical plug that controls vacuum for the smog. Go to the parts store and look at one and ask where it goes or just trace it. This stops from buying one if you remove the hose or connector and the same problem is still there!

You cant be telling folks that it is gear oil on the rodeos tranny. That suggest 80 90w which will kill. Its Dexron III. You need to correct that.

there are different types of fluids go in that vehicle
the transmission takes ATF
the transfer case for the 4x4 take engine oil ( depend on where you live it take different grades )
the differential takes GL5 also depend on the temperature of your region, it will need different grades.
hope this will explain the confusion

Automatic transmission leaks on my 2000 Rodeo 4wheel drive Any help? Please

If you have never serviced the transmission, it just may be time to have the transmission fluid and filter to be replaced if the transmission fluid is leaking from the transmission pan. If it's leaking from the rear of the transmission where the drive shaft goes in to, then it's the rear seal from the transfer case and the seal needs to be replaced and the transfer case topped off with fluid. If the fluid is leaking from the front of the transmission where the engine connects to the transmission than it's a good chance that it's the torque converter or front pump main seal. The other place that it could be leaking from is the transmission oil lines from the transmission to the cool at the radiator. Please let me know if it's leaks worst when the engine is running or only when your parked for a few hours. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

Transmission fluid level

I have a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo however when I purchased the vehicle I managed to obtain a service manual on mine.
Mine is a V-6 3.2liter engine with automatic transmission and it took me a while to find out where I added transmission fluid at too.

It is located under the vehicle on the Passenger side of the vehicle and it is located on the transmission just before the transfer case. There is like a eye beam across one side to another then there is like a Indent the lower one is for drain and the upper one with a larger bolt like plug is the fill hole. I used a turkey baster with a large bulb like affair to **** the transmission fluid in to it from the bottle then I inserted the baster up and into the hole vacated by the plug. Then squeezed the fluid into the transmission and kept at it till the fluid dripped out on its own. I hurried and inserted the plug into the hole and screwed into it and tightened it up and lowered the vehicle down checked after the vehicle had been warmed up and re jacked the vehicle up and rechecked and all I needed was a small squirt into it and it was full and since then it has been running really well since.
