Not to sound mean or anything but if you need to take apart your shifter tower and you dont know where it is, you most likely dont know why you are taking off your shifter tower or what you are even going to do. What is it that you are trying to fix?

SOURCE: timing belt broke -2000 ford focus zx3

Hello mawbea: My name is Roger I will answer your question. You did not say which engine is in your car. So if you have a 2.0 SOHC engine. If the belt broke you should be Ok. If you have the 2.0 DOHC engine. The likely hood of bending the valves are just about a guarantee. How ever with any engine using a timing belt it is possible to bend a valve.Should you need more help please just ask.
Please rate the quality of your answer as this way we know you received helpful information.Thank You for using Fix Ya, Roger

SOURCE: 2000 ISUZU TROOPER WITH AUTO TRANSMISSION. CHECK

If the fluid is up -
it could be a vacume loss or the shifting module..
The shifting module is what tells it to shift - and it is controled by vacume pressure..

2005 Ford Focus zx4 SES 5 speed manual transmission won't go into reverse

Hi Jeremy smith, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box?
buy the service manual and the cables must be adjusted correctly
the clutch must work too.
why work blind, ?

the cable for 5/reverse is adjusted wrong
we can not see the damage there,
damage to fire wall? RUST DAMAGE.
if you had and read the service manual
it would show how to do all that..
the transmission can be shifted with no cables on it, by hand, to prove it does go to REV.
and if that test fails , you know know the cables or even shifter parts are bad or assembled and adjusted the wrong way.
this is a pure mechanical problem no computers or magic.

q2
shift linkage lines were broke where it came through the firewall
what does this mean to a blind man on the internet. we cant see that damage or the extent. if just the cables were bad say just the cables, and not the firewall.
some cars have clamps there,
see this notch here, top of 7230 the cable and all parts end to and must move this gear dog, or fails. must index it and move it.
or it fails.

5th-undefined-undefined-0.jpg if the below works by hand(and is trick)_ the cables back are bad or set wrong.

shift-undefined-undefined-1.jpg

shift-undefined-undefined-2.jpg

clips-undefined-undefined-5.jpg lost or have clips connected wrong?
clips-undefined-undefined-4.jpg I can NOT see missing parts the PO remove or lost or set wrong with 3gear out. ford.com has all parts here.

My 2000 ford focus wont shift. Its not the transmission because I can shift it manually a the transmission. Could this be the linkage?

I think your shifter cable broke go back to the linkage at the trans and find the bracket the cable attaches to and try to pull the cable through if you can it broke that's why I think the shifter lever is now all over the place also go to the bottom off the steering column it may have just come loose at the bracket inside the car good luck Adam you'll find it Stephen

Gear shift stuck

Hi Ray, The advise above is good and should be checked out. If that does not solve the problem, before looking for a replacement transmission check and make sure the clutch is fully disengaging. If the clutch is mal adjusted that can also cause a problem with shifting gears. If the gears are stuck and wont shift at all the problem is most likely with the selector rods and/or forks. In that case you'll need major transmission work carried out. Regards John

Where is the neutral safty swith on a 2006 ford focus

There isnt a neutral safety switch. There is a manual lever position sensor(MLP). It combines all the fuctions of backup lights, neutral safety, and informing the PCM what gear you have selected into one unit. Follow the shift cable out to the transmission, and at the end, Follow the shift cable out to the transmission, and at the end, you will find the MLP.
Pendin if its auto or manual

2003 Ford Focus p1747 short solenoid error

THIS IS A COMMON CODE.. THIS IS A PRESSURE SELENOID LOCATED INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION.... SOMETIMES CALLED A SHIFT SELENOID... THERE IS A FIRST TO SECOND SHIFT SELENOID AND A SECOND TO THIRD AND A THIRD TO OVERDRIVE... THE SHORT CIRCUIT CODE CAN BE TWO THINGS.. FIRST A BAD SPOT IN WIRING HARNESS CAUSING SHORT CONDITION.. DOUBTFULL... OTHER CONDITION IS THE SELENOID ITS SELF COULD BE GOING BAD DRAWING MORE CURRENT THAN NORMAL. THIS WILL REGISTER THIS CODE....YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION PAN TO EXSPOSE THE VALVE BODY.. THERE YOU WILL SEE SEVERAL SHIFT SELENOIDS...WHEN YOU PURCHASE THE REPLACEMENT IT WILL GIVE YOU A GOOD IDEA WHAT TO LOOK FOR....THEY JUST PLUG IN AND 1 OR 2 SCREWS HOLD THEM IN.... LET ME KNOW IF MORE HELP NEEDED

Ford Focus 2002: won't go into gear.. any gear

automatic transmissions can break down over time. my focus had its transmission replaced once about 3 years ago and at that time my boss owned it and had it replaced for at least 4 digits 2000-3000$.

Manual transmissions last a bit longer[ not much ] and are lighter an easy to repair, but a shop will charge the same for the parts.

automatic are heavy and a little more complex

if you have a friend who is good with cars im sure you can save a lot more money

but make sure you have transmission fluid. look for a yellow cap [ sometimes its different colors] that should be to the right or left mid section and remove the cap and make sure its the transmission fluid cap and check to see if its low. try refilling but check for leaking so you dont waste it

your trans might be leaking so check to see if a red fluid it dripping from under your car, that may be the problem and the transmission may need to be replaced
