Pump was loud then not replaced worked for week then same

My pontiac grand am would cut in and out. the fuel pump was loud and when it got quiet it would die. i replaced the pump worked for about a week then is started doing the same again. is there a relay? or do i just keep getting crappy fuel pumps? this is the 5th replacement in 3 years.
can too much or too little voltage cause this? have had lot of electrical problems. had to bypass harness on starter/alternator.

Lower voltage is just as bad as too much. Check to be sure the entire fuel pump system has proper voltage. I myself would start at the pump that will save you time if it ok.

2000 pontiac grand am stalls

The pump should run quietly. Do you hear a load hum while driving? When it stalls, with the key on and everything quiet in the car you should hear a faint hum when you turn just the key on ( not cranking the engine over ) this last only a few seconds. If you hear that. The pump is working you might have another problem. Let me know

Car cut off like it ran out of gas, there is plenty of gas

check fuel pump is working, go to the engine compartment and take the fuel line off the injector rail and place it in a bottle then have a friend to turn the engine over and see if you have a steady flow of petrol flowing into the bottle, if you dont have any fuel at all id say its your pump. if you have a start stop flow or a week flow try changing your fuel filter

Fuel pump is really loud and engine looses power while running

The noise is from a thing called cavitation.......if the pump is wearing out, it will start to "churn" the fuel causing air bubbles, which create the noise.
Being over 12 years old, I suggest a fuel pump replacement.

Not getting fuel to engine. Changed filter. Fuel pump will pump for a few seconds with filter removed.

Sounds like the Fuel Pump is bad. Too much back pressure is causing them to cut out. Replace the Fuel Pump.

Where is the fuel pump cut off switch located on a pontiac grand prix se 1997?

There is no fuel pump cut off switch in General Motors vehicles. If you don`t have fuel pressure or the pump is not running you have to check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. You can check the fuel pump fuse and make sure it is good.Hope this helps.Good luck.

The pump should be fairly quiet. There not too hard to replace, just a hose and a power connection. Check the fuse that works the pump first. If it is blown you will probably need a new pump.
