Question about 1988 Suzuki Samurai

1 Answer

When 87 suzuki stops it dies, hesitation when starting

Full tune up filter air and fuel, plugs, wires, rotory cap and button. Timing is correct. Egr seems fine model does not have pcv do to the lack of cold idle choke in fact never had pcv. Did the idle speed screw which helped a little with the stopping problem but still seems to want to die. And still having slight problemes with hesitation as starting. When driving runs pretty good. Vehicle has been setting for a few months possibly thinking that it just needs to be ran for while. Anyone with good commits please help.

there is a hose that connects to air filter box from valve cover , and short hose to manifold , if that leaks it will stall when coming to a stop , also check the black box under glove box , might be fried , it controls mixture solenoids in carburetor

I've never seen a samurai without a PCV valve hooked up. You sure its just missing it cuase that is what releases the pressure build up in the engine. If not working/installed then you're gonna get piston blow by, oil burning, and a rough running engine.

Hi Susan,
I would do a full tune up. Change oil. oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I know it sounds like a lot, but this is considered a full tune up. If problem persists let me know and we can go from there.

stalls, are complex, there will be no easy online answers.
but here is a short list. of stalls.
the answer too all is doing tests with real tools, guessing will be $$$$$$$

1: never tuned up. leads the list. (100 years in a row, btw)
2: bad cam or spark timing for a list of reasons. (timing lights)
3: bad fueling. (clogged fuel filter due to never do doing tune-ups)
4: EGR valve stuck open.
5: bad engine compression. (gage it)

tuneup means, reading and following the service schedule in the operators guide (free to get) and espically the 60,000 mile list. !!!

Rough idle 95 astro van, I did a full tune up , plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, and fuel filter and cleaned egr vavle.

I actually had to replace my EGR valve and the gasket. I clean the valve well and reused both. I don't think the gasket sealed well enough though. So I went ahead and got a new valve, gasket and changed them. It runs a lot smoother now.

Sounds like your car needs a tune-up, specifically, the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve, and/of the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve.

Components checked/replaced during a tune-up are:
air filter
motor oil
motor oil filter
breather filter
fuel filter(s)
fuel strainer
PCV valve
EGR valve
spark plugs
spark plug wires
ECM or distributor cap & rotor
cabin air filter
transmission oil filter
transmission oil
engine coolant
check all vacuum hoses and lines

Van is idling really rough died out while at a stop light but runs ok if at a steady speed what could this be 2001 ford windstar sel

first lets start by making sure that it has had proper maintanance  including with the air filter and progressing to a full tune up,can you remember the last time this was done?if not stop here and tune it up.
if it recieves proper maintanance then have the fuel pressure checked followed by the timing.if this does not work then you will either have a defective egr valve or a vacuum leak.
hope this helps

I had a similar issue with my 88 XLT w/351w. It was the beginning of a problem with my MAPP sensor. After a wjile I could hardly keep the truck running at all. I changed the MAPP sensor and made sure the timing was still on and now it runs fine.
