Replaced tps and the car will not sped up on fast idle when cold.

I have replaced the TPS thinking this would solve the problem. The car will not idle on the fast idler since the weather has turned cold. It has always idled fine in the past

SOURCE: Heat blows cold when car is idling

You have an air pocket in the cooling system. To bled it out you will have to park vehicle on an incline or jack up the front end untill the radiator cap is higher than the heater core. The remove radiator cap and run engine until warm then hold rpm to about 1200 rpm's and top off coolant level until you have no more bubbles.

SOURCE: Engine will not idle and run when starting in cold weather

Have a mechanic take a look at your throttle position sensor and engine idle sensor. Make him manually adjust them as opposed to just putting in new ones. It may require that you have to have a higher idle than normal. Your underlying cause is going to be that I am sure you have a lot of miles on your engine.

any of those sensors can cause that but the best thing to do is scan it or check for a vacuum leak with a smoke machine.

Replaced bad tps engine runs great. transmission won't shift until 4000rpm in drive no kick down shift. it will down shift manually help please! 1997 pontiac firebird 3800 automatic idles great

To solve your problem you will have to clear the faulty engine code with a scanner to reset it (It should solve the problem)
I think you should check the TPS value with a scanner and if it works. Could be an open circuit at the TPS, Short to ground. You will have to find out.
You have to know: When a TPS sensor fault is detected by the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) PCM will take action on that and to protect the transmission it will block transmission shift like no 1 to second gear, No TCC (Torque Converter Clutch apply) and so on.
Hope it helps.

Motor runs at 4000 rmp when started

1995 Geo Metro. COLD start or HOT started or BOTH?
Does it ever idle down to 800 HOT? (engine temp)>?

Aka:
Geo Metro (later re-branded the Chevrolet Metro), Pontiac Firefly, and Suzuki Swift
which engine, what country???
I will post for USA only !!!!
Auto or stick tranny???
the USA 1995 was the last car to use TBI injection (throttle body)
the LSI option, then had a 4 cylinder. in 1.3Liters.
and works totally differ. than any 1.0L
answsering for 1.0L

Have you inserted the Diagnostic jumper wire and looked at the
FLASH codes yet?
choke? on 95? what country is this, ours are not carbs. in 1995.
so post country. ours are all EFI in USA.
3 cylinder? 1 liter? or which engine/?
on any USA Metro, 1L , when first started, it has 2 valves. to control IDLE, (cold , is iAC) hot is ISC, The cold start valve opens farther the colder it is (how cold was it). but usually is limited to about 2000 rpm
max.
this engine, TBI, uses a MAP to control fuel mixtures, and
any air leaks (aka; vacuum leaks) what so ever, will cause too fast idle.
so on MAP cars, you get to find out what is leaking AIR.
1995 has the new better , idle control speed motor, (ISC)
this can be stuck open.
that new TPS, did you do the calibration correctly?
it must set right. or idle will never be controlled.
finding the cause, takes hard work, and hands on testing
A/C fast idle broken
A/T transmission fast idle, device, broken.
Air leaks (add huge list of possibles and cracked hoses here)
Throttle stuck
ISC or IAC bad.
very hands on to find this, done many.
TPS on indexed corrrectly or not calibrated.

ECM Trouble shooting

Don't even THINK about replacing the PCM right now. That's way down the list of possibles. The P0102 can be caused by a significant vacuum leak and that would also cause a very high idle speed. Check the air duct that runs from the MAF to the intake. Look for anything that would let in unmetered air. The P0122 is pretty easy to check. Remove the plug from the TPS and measure reference voltage (key in RUN position) on the gray wire. It should be 5V dc. If it's not, backprobe the gray wire right at the PCM at pin 16. You should see 5-volts there. If you do, then you have a wiring issue between the PCM and TPS. The reference voltage is spliced between the PCM and the TPS. The splice provides the 5v to the linear EGR vavle, MAP and fuel tank pressure sensor.

Until you check the reference voltage, you have NO basis to think that the problem is in the PCM.

Fast idle land rover discovery

I had the same problem on my 96 Discovery. It turns out, if the low end of the new TPS reads even a little bit higher than the old TPS, then the engine will rev high. It can be reset at LR dealership to map the new TPS, or you can hog out the screw holes on the new TPS and turn it clockwise until it reads as low or lower than the old TPS, or you can try cleaning the old TPS and reinstalling it. I was able to fix it by rotating, but I also was able to read the TPS signal at the OBD2 diagnostic port.

It could be a combination of 2 things. A faulty MAP sensor itself or a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). It's not uncommon for a bad TPS to idle when the motor is cold but once warm, not idle fast enough to keep the vehicle running.

Hi the IISC the TPS can both cause erratic and fast idling, also air leaks, the Volume Air Flow sensor to name a couple of other causes, as the code points to the TPS i would be inclined to trust the code, i would want to get the timing right but that in itself wouldn't cause the problem you are having, poor performance would be,

Intermittent: car will not accelerate when cold. No diagnostic code

1. Inspect the 2 wire harness for the 7x Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor in the rear of the block.

2. Wiggle tug test the harness and inspect the harness for being melted from the exhaust manifold. Tests/Procedures: 1. Verify fuel pressure climbs to over 40 PSI during cranking and reads about 35-40 PSI at idle. Potential Causes: Insufficient Fuel Pressure
Tech Tips: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will idle the engine at a normal speed when the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage returns to the learned base idle value. This is also called 0% throttle angle. If this throttle angle is 1% or more at idle, the PCM will assume the engine is actually off idle and raise the engine speed to prevent a deceleration stall. Note that another sensor using the same 5 volt reference as the TPS can momentarily glitch the reference voltage low. This will cause the TPS to send a lower base idle voltage to the PCM, which the PCM quickly records as the new learned base idle voltage. When the reference voltage returns to 5 volts, the base TPS signal voltage increases to it's previous value. The PCM now interprets this as being off idle. This will cause the throttle angle to increase to 1% (or more) and idle the engine at a fast speed

When a/c is turned on idles rough and rpms drop put in neutral and idles fine in gear rough idle when you come to stop already changed egr valve not the problem

See if the idle control is working. I have a protegee that does the same thing, although the cause of mine is diffrent, it is the torque converter clutch not disengaging when stopped. Read the code, and see if there are any. Auto Zone will read it for free and give you a print out.
