Question about 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab

Engine check light

I attached a obdII scanner to a 2000 dodge dakota Quad cab with a 4.7L engine to find out what the code would be for the light coming on, the error code is P1698, no No CCD/J1850 Message From TCM/PCM. What does this mean and haw can it be fixed, this happens only after using a remote starter a couple of time and then the light will come and have this same code all the time. The truck still runs fine.

It means that it didn't receive a signal from the transmision module.
Have your transmission control module checked.

To reset your engine codes:
Remove the negative terminal of your battery (10mm wrench).
Turn your ignition key to START and hold it there for about 15 seconds.
Turn your ignition key to OFF and remove it.
Connect the negative terminal of your battery.

It probably has to do with the remote start:

http://www.wjjeeps.com/faultcodes.htm (same engine)

P1698 (M)
No CCD/J1850 Message From TCM
No CCD/J1850 messages received from the electronic transmission control module (EATX) or the Asian transmission controller.
P1698 (M)
No CCD/J1850 Message From PCM
Bus communication failure to PCM. A “Companion DTC” was set in both the ECM and PCM. May be caused by after market remote starter. Remove after market remote starter. This code can be set as the remote starter is activated and the pcm receives ignition run voltage and the tcm does not.

I have a 2000 dodge dakota quad cab (4.7L / V*). My check engine light kept coming on after tightening the loose gas cap. I purchases a new gas cap specifically for my truck and the light came on again...

Check that there are no other leaks in the gas filler neck or gas tank itself that would cause the gas cap error to cause the check engine light to go on.

A lack of pressure in the tank can cause the check engine light to go on, erroneously signalling that the gas cap is loose or missing.

Good luck on this repair.

That should keep you busy for awhile

Best take it to a shop with an EVAP Smoke Machine and Professional Scanner

2002 dodge dakota with a check engine light code 442

P0442:

Small leak detected in evaporative purge system

if i had to guess I would say that your gas cap is not on tight enough or that is is bad. chrysler has had a lot of bad gas caps that cause EVAP service engine lights.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad cab SLT 4x4 that won't start. The engine will turn over but, as soon as I release the key, it shuts off. The ABS and BRAKE dash lights stay on.

It could be a cam or crank sensor. Have someone plug a OBD II reader in and pull all the codes.
That will give you some idea.
Please let me know what you find.
