I have a 1996 2.0 SOHC, I get a constant PO171 code. Everything has been changed, including the engine and I still get the code!! I even changed the oil pressure sensor and cleaned the wiring to the ECU. I found engine oil in the ECU plug and cleaned that out. The problem went away for 15 miles and has returned...again and is constant.WTF?? I am wondering if it might be the ECU? HELP!!!! I need to know where to start. Thanks in advance.
SOURCE: don't know what system lean bank means.
hi it means you have a lean fuel/air ratio on the cylinders on that side of your engine look for air leaks [hoses gaskets loose manifold bolts etc yates210456

it sounds like you have a fuel issue. you should check for proper fuel pressure. its should be 48 PSI.
if its not, it could be a clogged fuel filter, a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator, clogged fuel pump strainer, or even a bent, kinked fuel line.
if the fuel pressure is correct, its most likely a faulty fuel injector.
by the way, you car doesn't have a mass airflow sensor, it has a MAP sensor

if you have a check engine code on,scan it will point you at problem area,if notand if timing belt is pass due may be wearing out and jumped a few knotches,i would inspect it anyway
SOURCE: engine dies sitting at lights and hesitates on
Take a look at the idle air control (IAC) motor and make sure that is working correctly.

You say you changed the cap and rotor so I'm assuming the van has a 3.0L? Possible injector problem on cylinder #5, swap injector with cylinder 1 or 3 and see if miss/dtc moves to that cylinder. You also could have a vaccum leak, although they usually won't come and go. Does the vehicle have a consistent miss or do you just have a check engine light?
Testimonial: "Yes I have a 3.0L. I will swap out injector #5 with another cylinder. I can?t find any vacuum leak and was thinking on putting in a new EGR valve. The vehicle seems to have a consistent miss. The check engine light is on again. I started with error code P0300 and P0305. After I replaced the parts listed above the error codes went away, (no check engine light). Next day P0305 came back. "
