Question about 1997 Volkswagen Golf

1 Answer

AC does not work

I have 1997 VW Golf CL Auto and aircon does not work. I have checked the fuse and it seems ok. I am not sure how to check relay and gas & compressor.

I have asked my electrician to check for the leakage and we could not find any leakage. We have checked the gas level and it was enough, so the last resort was to change the compressor and after changing the compressor everything worked fine.

    Thank you for your suggestion.

If it is low on gas the compressor will not engage. You can take one of the fill caps off and stick a pen in a press on the valve is gas escapes with pressure the system has gas. If not the system has to recharged and checked for leaks. You can check to see if the compressor is siezed by trying to turn the outer portion of the pulley by hand, if it turns the compressor is probably OK. (DON'T TRY THIS WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING)

Tony, searched the net. and posted links of what I found, passenger compartment fuse box fuse #17, 5 amp audio/radio
under hood fuse box/relay center #F19, 15 amp. and #F50, 40 Amp.
While googling did notice fuse locations may differ, if you have a test light, just simple, check all the fuses.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

I would check the fuel pump relay, should be mounted above the fuses in the fuse box. And check the fuse for the pump.
