it was my understanding that my tranny was a seald one or something like that

The tranny in my LS is similar as far as sympton. All I can say is the only way to check the fluid is from underneath. By getting the transmission hot and then jack it up and take out the little plug in the center of the drain plug. If no fluid comes out then you need to add through the speedometer connection or the small plug in the very end of the transmission where the drive shaft connects. If fluid does come out the plug in the middle of the plug then you have enough fluid.

I would say that the fluid is just low and it takes longer to pick up the fluid in reverse. If fluid is checked on level ground and hot and is still indicating it is full, then I would check to see when the last transmissing service was done and when the servicing intervals are. You may need a new filter and fluid, relatively inexpensive compared to the alternative.

It is and it is not usual for a car owner to change the filter themselves, it is a little more difficult to change the filter than changing the oil. The filter is internal and there can be up to 20 or so bolts to remove and it can be a huge mess, but all transmissions have a filter, I think most ford, lincoln, mercury products have a scheduled service interval for the transmissions at 60,000 miles, you may want to check at a service station, I think the going rate when I worked at Firstone was $79.99 but that was 5 or 6 years ago now.

Hi, I have a 1995 volvo 850 with automatic tranny...all forward gears work fine but reverse does not engage unless you stick your foot out the door and roll the car back 2-4 feet then you can feel reverse...

check the transmition fluid level, ( do this with the engine running & the selector in P) if low top up & see if fault cured
also check fluid is no dis-coloured or smells burnt, if so you may have to drain the transmition & change the filter & fluid, a transmition flush would be a good idea.
if the problem remains it is most likely the seals/clutches in the transmition are worn

My 2002 lincoln LS(V8)acts as if it goes into neutral as i slow down, then when it's time to go the engine will rev up and then will jump into gear. is the tranny going out?

The tranny is not usually out when this happens. It is usually a fluid problem. Either the fluid is too low or the filter in the tranny pan is clogged. If the filter is real bad then it is getting close to time to have your trans. replaced because this means that it is full of fragments of the trans. spacers and clutches. I hope that it is just low on fluid.

I have a 01 lincoln i have no reverse i can drive forward but not backwards

Unfortunately in most cases it is Reverse that goes first when tranny starts to go bad. Make sure your tranny fluid level is full (not over full). Have you noticed any leaks on ground where you park your vehicle? Have you ever had your tranny flushed of the old fluid and replaced with new?

My 2005 Lincoln LS V6 has a message that says srvc P

The message means the electric park brake needs serviced. In this case I feel that considering the ac problem, the Coolant Control Valve is defective. The valve can create RF interference that messes with the electronics of the park brake system. The Coolant Control Valve is located at the right side bottom of the radiator fan shroud and has 3 heater hoses connected to it.

I believe you mean it is a manual tranny. I believe the shift fork in the tranny is messed up or the linkage from the shifter to tranny is diconnected. In order to check the linkage pull the car up on ramps and lock the rear brakes. Find the shifter under the car and follow the linkages to the tranny. The shift fork will have to be checked at the shop.
