Question about 2004 Dodge Ram

Noise from middle to front of truck, when in 4WD at slow speed

2005 Dodge Ram 1500, getting a gear noise from the mid to front of truck when in 4WD at low speed, had the front dif. checked out it was ok, checked trasfer case fluid ok, truck has under 60,000 km on it.
What can this be ?

If you are driving on pavement or solid surface in 4 low you will get a heck of a noise. Should only be used for slow off road, or pulling stumps. 4 hi is used for snow, rain etc.

When did you last replace trans filter and fluid? Dirt may be causing shift valve to stick.

Oil pressure fluctuating


The sensor could be failing to read the lower pressure when the engine RPM slows down. Or the pump could be failing. I would replace the sensor and see if that doesn't correct the problem

Have you checked the fluid level? If not, it could indicate it's too low. This isn't a 'normal' sound, but hopefully topping off the gear oil in the rearend will quiet it down.
