Question about 2007 BMW 750Li Sedan
Hello I have a 89 735 il that wont start at all right now. I have noticed in the past a problem with it starting. It will not start unless the E for econemy drive is on the dash. It wont start if it has the S for sport. I have tried to push the button to change but it goes right back. Can you help? Thanks Matt
The cause of the display reading E sometimes and S sometimes is a defective transmission module, or getriebesteuerung in German. This module is located in the passenger side kick panel. To replace the module you will have to remove that panel then loosen the 4 10mm bolt which hold the module in place. There is a large set or wires going to this module and it is not simple to remove at first, it takes some twisting and shouting. Make sure your battery is disconnected when you do this and make sure to replace it with a module that has the same part number on it, If you have any more questions I'd be glad to help.

Your car, being a 735 iL (the iL being the key here) requires what is called Pentosin 7.1. This is a mineral based hydraulic fluid used in BMW's with self leveling suspension. Since your car is an iL you have self leveling suspension. Not a lot of parts stores carry this fluid. NAPA has it, if it's not on the shelf they can order it. BMW dealers also stock it. The same pump that runs your self leveling also runs your power stearing and they are filled in the same location as they share a common resivoir. This resivoir is located in the engine compartment on the driver's side and looks like a black bottle with a screw type cap.

Please check that the battery is not run down. I suggest you replacing with a dry cell battery just in case it isn't. Check the fuel level and Next you need to check that the carbon brushes of your ignition are ok. Don't kickstart for too long because it runs down the battery too. You need to consider when last it was serviced....
Keep me posted.
Cheers & BW

the solenoid inside is maybe sticking. another thing to try is lubricating the latch assembly that attaches to the metal "u"at the door jam.
