Question about 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD

1 Answer

2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4X4 problems

I pulled the Actuator and it does drive in and out as advertised. You can hear it actuate when installed also. I had codes pulled and was told both my wheel hub speed sensors were shorting out. Another dealer is blaming the Speedo cluster. I have more then 70,000 miles but the second dealer is willing to work with me. It is a differance of $1100 dollars between the hubs and speedo and I don't want to make the wrong guess. Does the speedo or its control module effect the 4X4? I am also getting the service brake system, abs and brake lights when ever I drive.

Unplug the front axle actuator. Replace the fuse. Put in four wheel drive. Did the fuse blow? If not replace the front axle actuator.

2000 Gmc sierra sle 1500 on the floor 4x4, 4x4 engages but nothing to the front wheels, the drive shaft spins, but still nothing, any suggestions?

Sounds like you need a front axle actuator. This actuator bolts to the side of the front differential housing. It is electrically engaged. You can purchase them online starting at about $40

I am trying to replace the 4wd drive actuator on my 2004 gmc.how do i get the spline on the transfer case to line up with the spline on the actuator?

Rotate the actuator until the spline goes on partially, then rotate to align with mounting bolts. May need to turn wheels while doing the final rotation.

My 2500hd s 4 wheel drive service warning is

The  actuator on the front diff or transfer case is stuck or bad. This will send a signal back and turn on the service light. In 2003 I believe the actuator is on the front differential.

97 gmc sierra won't go into 4x4. Electronic

Take the front axle actuator out of the axle. Plug it back in and have some one push the 4x4 button. The actuator should move, it's a liniar motor. If it doesn't then the actuator is bad or there is a wiring problem. If it does there is a problem in your front diff or some where else in the system.
I'd take a guess and say it's the front actuator.

4X4 inop on 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD

I have found that when you are going to engauge 4x4 high, it is best to only be going about 3 miles an hour. Not faster, not stopped. It likes some movement to help it mesh. I've had perfect shifts since I started this. Hope it helps. Wade.

'95 GMC SUBURBAN

There is a actuator on the front axle. These are notorios for going bad. The new one will usualy come with a slug (round piece of metal) to install in front of the new actuator so it will engage your 4X4 faster. The factory setup was slow due to the pin having to move so far. The actuator will be towards the front of the vehicle on the passenger side of the differential.
Have a great evening
