Question about 1999 Plymouth Neon

1 Answer

Car wouldn't start

So I had a out of province safety done on my car, know my battery light comes on when I put my car in reverse and start driving. I bought a new battery thinking that might of been the problem but still my battery light is on. I had my alternator changed the end of November this year, so does that mean my alternator is bad?? my car sat for about a month before i got a new battery. I decided for the heck of it I would try and start it with the old battery one last time, it started then when i pulled out my head light switch my car made a guzzling noise and died on me. With the new battery in it seems to be working. I am wondering if my alternator is bad b/c the battery light is still on and it never use to come on. Any thoughts or suggestions for me?

Yes if the light is on i would be about 99% sure the alternator has gone bad.

The problem original would have been the battery failure but if you had the jump start done incorrectly then the resultant power surge may have knocked out the cpu unit and that is why nothing works properly. Try having the cpu reset by a fault code reader and keep your fingers crossed. You may be lucky

My 2007 dodge charger didn't crank so I jumped it

A battery from 07 is still decently new to be that bad, but I would check the alternator first, just get the car running and unhook the positive cable from the battery, if the car dies the alternator is bad.

What could be causing my 2005 mazda 6 to keep dying while I am driving it?

Have the codes read with a scan tool. Most auto parts stores will do it free.

I have an 02 Mercury Sable-car had problems starting so I got a new alternator, new starter and new battery. Started out fine, then car started shaking when put in reverse or drive, check engine light came...

Why would you drive a week with the check light on &
all those problems?

Why would you drive the car at all, without taking it back to
where the work was done

We have had On-Board-Diagnostics on all vehicles for 31 years,
that's why the check light is on

Surely you have heard of checking for codes when you get
a check light on your dash

Until you do that, you got nowhere to start

You do realize the Alternator has nothing to do with starting
a car,& wouldn't every fail at the same time as the starter

Car keeps stalling when brakes applied, then starts but turns off

I dont know why, but one time my truck was low on trans fluid and after I topped it off, it didnt stall anymore when put into gear. as fro the odometer i dont know, it may have to go out completely before any diagnosis can be done.

Sounds like your BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH. Have someone stand behind the car and see if the lights come one when pressed. It's a safety device in the car. You cannot go into gear unless the brake is pressed, so if the switch is bad it doesn't let the computer know to release it.
