4X4 inop on 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD

My 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD with Duramax and allison. 4X4. When I select 4X4 I get the steady light, I hear the actuators drive but the four wheel drive doesn't work. Any ideas. I aslso have a speedometer issue but believe it to be the speedometer assymbly.

I have found that when you are going to engauge 4x4 high, it is best to only be going about 3 miles an hour. Not faster, not stopped. It likes some movement to help it mesh. I've had perfect shifts since I started this. Hope it helps. Wade.

You need to find out what codes you have in the transfer case control module. You might have a front axle actuator problem or encoder(shift) motor sensor problem.
If your truck has less than 70,000 miles on it you can take it to your local Dealer and get the cluster replaced under a special coverage warrenty adjustment.

Instrument cluster says " Service 4 Wheel Drive". No 4 wheel drive while this is on.

Two possibilites:
Have you been thru a car wash lately?

Also,
There is a sensor in the trans that senses what gear mode you're in...it either is working or it isn't....
are you still under warranty??

Take your positive cable off battery and wait a few minutes..This resets the computer and takes it out of limp mode.Theres been a lot of problems in the dash so if you can find an auto zone and have them scan it They'll do it for free. But as far as the lights my truck does the same thing. Just flick your fingers on the buttons and they should flash..The plug in the back of buttons was loose..
