Change Fuel Filter on 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Where would I find the fuel filter on my 1999 chevrolet silverado 1500 and how easy is it to replace?

We have 80,000 miles on the Truck, it is in good condition and I want to change out the Plugs and Fuel Filter and my dealer want $220 to do the job.

Unless there is something really complex about this, I would like to do it myself.

Thanks for any help

Thanks philriden. I found the filter. Looks like the line is secured on both the inlet and outlet sites by two nuts that can be loosened with a wrench. Probably need a wrench on both the nut on the line and the nut on the filter itself.

Then there is a bracket that must be taken off to free the filter.

What special tool are you referring to?

    Thanks again for the help.

It's on the driver side frame. It's not hard to install one. Just have to have a special tool to get the line off the filter.

Thank you very much. The special tool is a quick release tool on some model chevy trucks. If yours comes off by wrench, there is no special tool for your truck. Thanks again. Phil

If your filter comes off with wrenches, you won't need a special tool. The special tool is not needed for all models and yours is one that don't need the special tool. Thank you very much. Phil

jayell2, I couldn't send an email to you as we can only write through the Fixya site. I'm seeing on my end that you have rated this solution as a Fixya. Thank you very much. Very kind of you.

I need to change the fuel filter in my 1999 chevy silverado and can't find the fuel line or the filter (as easy as it's supposed to be via

Hello, my name is Ben and I can help you with this. I have the same truck and I change my fuel filter every 10,000 miles. The fuel filter is under the truck directly under the driver's seat, mounted on the inside of the frame rail. There are two nuts which hold the fuel filter bracket to the frame. Always use two wrenches when removing the fuel lines, if you only use one wrench there is a strong chance of damaging the filter casing. Also, make sure you mount the new filter in the proper direction, there should be a small arrow on the side of the filter. If you need any further clarification, just ask, Ben.

The truck will not start sometimes, acts like it will then stops. What could the problem be?

Change fuel filter, air filter and check fuel pressure. If ok and spark plugs have not been replaced for 50,00 mles change them

93 chevrolet silverado will not start fuel to throttle body can spray fuel in to it and it will start then dies (runs out of the fuel sprayed in)

Check for a dirty fuel filter, or it's a fuel pump relay/pump. If it has never had a fuel pump changed on it, it will say AC DELCO on the filter. The fuel filter is located under drivers side door along the frame. Fairly easy to change, and if this doesn't fix the problem, then it is the fuel pump relay/fuel pump. *Hint... it is easier to remove the bed of the truck than to drop the tank out. From experience it is much faster and easier to access.

Let me know,

How do you change the fuel filter on a chevy 1500 1996 model

Underneath the truck close to the chassis theres a can look alike, thats the fuel filter, you probably will need a 5/8 wrench to remove one end and a screwdriver to remove the other end.

Could be as simple as your fuel filter...after the truck starts..can you keep it runing by gunning the motor?

If you can feather the accelerator to keep the motor runing, I'd start at the filter, and then check the fuel pump
