Either where it comes out of the body, or on the hatch side itself, pull on the harness & there should be a plug connection that you can pull apart & reconnect after.

How do I remove panel to replace liftgate switch, please?

Look for short in wire harness coming from main body of vehicle to the hatch at top by the hinge. I had a wire wear through insulation and positive wire was rubbing on ground to hatch acting as if you were hitting the switch. Just look for worn wire at the point it is nearest metal access hole where wire harness comes through, should be obvious.

Good Luck,

Replacing rear wiper motor on a 2006 smart fortwo

Open the rear hatch. You must pull off the hatch panel. There you will see 2 bolts holding the motor in place. Remove the wiper arm and the nut under the cover first. Unplug the wires going to the motor. Then remove the 2 bolts to the wiper motor. Install motor with the bolts. Replug in the wires. Reinstall the hatch panel. Then you can reinstall the nut and cover. Reinstall wiper arm. Done.

I cant open the glass on my back hatch any suggestions?

The glass hatch release handles fail all the time on these models (which is why the system was eliminated in 2009 models).

The glass hatch handle is $32 list from the dealer.

Removal and replacement requires a philips screwdriver and a 10mm socket and ratchet with extension.

Open the glass hatch by manually activating it through the access hole on the inside of the tailgate (small square panel covering it)

Remove the two philips screws and the one pop fastener holding the plastic trim on the back of the glass hatch handle area.

Remove the two 10mm nuts holding the handle on, unplug the wire and remove, noting the routing of the wiring on removal.

Reassemble in opposite order, being sure to route the wiring correctly.

Lift gate does not work in 2004 mit endeavor

This is due to the microswitch inside the glass hatch failing. It will not let you open the door because it is unsure if the glass is open or not.

Here is how to verify this:

    Manually open the glass hatch.
Remove the two philips screws from the cover on the back of the handle area, and unscrew the plastic plug with the slot in it.
You should now be able to remove the cover.
You will see the harness coming off the glass handle going to a connector. Unplug this white two wire connector.
Your rear hatch should now open normally, just without glass opening.

To repair this, you will need to replace the glass hatch handle. It is a dealer-only part, and the cost is about $35.

To replace it, simply remove the 2 10mm nuts behind it (visible with the cover off that you just removed) and replace the handle and plug it back in.
    Now all functions will work.

How do you remove the tail light assembly on a '91 240sx the book doesnt tell you anywhere and i have water leaking in to my hatch and its runnin down behind the tail lights and comin in.

ok so either sides the same so remove all panels behind the lights to expose all the wires. Then make sure you have a 10mm nut driver, locate long threaded skinny bolts with small short nurts on them. I believe there maybe six or more in that one section to remove the light. You may have to pull hard because there might be a sticky seal holding it in place. I dont think its from the light i would replace the weather stripping around the entire hatch before removing lights

    Open the full hatch.
Pull down the weather strip near the rear dome light.
There should be a wire with a connector in it. Disconnect it
    Close the full hatch.

Open just the window hatch. There is 1 screw on either side of the bulb housing.

    Rear Hatch

there will just be some press clip pins holding it in place if yoou dont see any visible screws holding it so insert a cloth covered flathead screwdriver or the fork tool made for this and carefully pry the panel away from the hatch lid.
