The v6 oil sending unit is down by your oil filter if your brake pedal shakes. it could be a tire out of round or a wheel out of balance this is the most common problem.alignment wont make the wheel shake hope this helps you. Phil

I have a 2000 Cavalier Z24 that leaks oil bad. The oil drips off of the bottom of the engine between the oil pan and transmission. I also noticed some oil at the top where the upper cooling hose is.

With this age of engine, the most likely cause is plugged up drain holes in the head. This allows the oil that goes to the cam and valve mechanism to be retained under the valve cover and present a challenge to the old valve cover gaskets,. Recommend you remove the valve cover, make sure the oil drain holes are clear and replace the valve cover gasket.

Oil leak

oil can leak in several places n your car, valve cover gaskets ,oil pan, rear main seal timing covers, oil pressure switch, oil drain plug, adn the oil filter if on too loose or if punctured. go to your local parts house and pick up a small ultra violet flashlight and 1 bottle of oil dye.( this will not harm your oil or the engine so you could leave it in until you change oil again) Install the dye in the oil filler cap and replace the cap. Next wipe away all the oil you can get to from the top and bottom of the engine. drive vehicle around the block 3 or 4 times allowing the dye to circulate and leak out. Now take your black light flashlight and start looking for a bright yellow or green to show up on the engine. Follow the green line right back to where it came from, there is at least one of your many possible leaks.

I am buying a 1998 Toyota Prado today and I have been told by two mechanics two different stories regarding an oil leak, how can I check and diagnose the oil leak myself?

Only thing you can do is look for it. If its on the top or sidesof the engine it shouldnt be to hard to tell where its coming from. Most likely valve cover gaskets. If its on the bottom of the engine its most likely the oil pan gasket. Some vehicles when doing an oil change because of the oil filter location, oil will drip for awhile and make it look like it has a leak when it really doesnt. I would check teh valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket and make sure your oil filter and plug are tight.

1998 Chevy Malibu is using excessive oil. Had an oil change done back in October 2012 . Then checked Oil level in December of 2012 and was about 3/4 low in oil! why ?

first thing check make sure oil pan drain plug tight. check make sure oil filter tight. try tighten oil filter by hand see if turn tighten oil filter clockwise direcction if all is good. how many miles on vechicle.could have oil leaks park vechicle in spot that clean.move vechicle see if you see oil spots on ground if yes.your front timing cover seal leaking oil or rear main oil seal ;eaking.or valve cover gaskets leaking.if find no oil leaks more likely engine burning oil.replace pcv valve.check air filter if you see oil in air filter housing either have bad pcv valve or pcv not getting vacuum make sure pcv valve getting vacuum when engine running vacuum should be felt at pcv if not pcv valve bad or pcv hose disconnected broken or plugged.if pcv valve okay engine has worn piston rings.worn valve seals or guides or oil return holes stopped up thats all possible reasons for engine burning oil.if spark plugs oil fouled engine burning oil.

Why is my 1992 cut;*** leaking oil already replaced head gasket could it be leaking from the block?

Hello Tina,
The most common ENGINE oil leaks come from a valve cover gasket, a front or rear main engine seal, a timing cover gasket/or seal, oil pan gasket/oil filter/housing/drain plug, or a faulty sensor. If you can't see where it's leaking from the topside, have it hoisted for further inspection.
Good Luck, i hope this helps & thanks for using FixYa.

Hi i have a 1994 dodge caravan it is leaking oil can this be fix im worry that we would have to save money for a van for my kids thanks

The Chrysler minivan products all had leaking problems. I have had 5 or 6 different Dodge or Plymouth minivans from 88 to 99. How bad is it. The most common thing is Valve cover leaks. Front and rear seals in the engine leak as well as the oil pan gasket. If its leaking a little bit at a time open the hood and look at the front and rear of the engine. Do you see grease and oil that has gone down the sides of the engine? Do you see a lot of grease on the engine with some clean streaks going through it. You may be able to see where its leaking from. If you know someone that knows what their doing have them change the leaky gasket/s. If not you can probably have it repaired for less than buying another van unless other things are seriously wrong with the van.
Hope this helps... Dale

Burning oil but runs very strong with good plugs

Are you sure it's burning the oil? Check your oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets for leaks. Is the car smoking? (light grayish or white smoke is oil, black or dark bluish is fuel) Could be bad valve seals. Also, main seals can leak oil out onto exhaust parts.
