First before I noticed the smoke, there was a high pitched whining noise coming from under the hood. The next day when I started it, smoke came from the exhaust tail pipe and more would come out when I accelerate. Under the hood, where it was once welded before due to a crack, some smoke comes out. That is located next to the bolts and connector piece between the downpipe and the turbo. What could be wrong with my car? The turbo went bad?
this sounds like antifreeze entering the crankcase..blown head gasket .warped head . cracked the block . pray it's only a blown head gasket and get it checked for cracks and straightness with a new head gasket might be all that's needed. the high pitched whining noise was probly your waterpump spinning dry . might need a new water pump to (where is your coolant lvl and what is the strength of it for the cold weather)
and a few exaust doughnuts wearing thin letting smoke out in the engine compartment not healthy to breath you should get it looked at.
sounds like your turbo let loose. The smoke is the coolant that runs thru the intercooler which cools the turbo. I would say either remove the turbo from the system , or replace it. which engine is in your car? w/o B234R eng; (T25 turbo) [rare] or w/B234R eng (TD04 turbo) Garrett type? (tag72623 Garrett pt# 452083-15)
for a used Turbo you are looking at around $150 plus shipping. but you will need to know which turbo you have of course.
The intercooler is gonna run an additional $50 or so (Hollander part number 317-51291) plus shipping.
give me a zip and tell me which engine (or turbo) you have and I will be happy to get you hooked up with the salvage yard closest to you that has these parts.

I have a 93 Saab and my vents aren't blowing heat. When I hit a bump in the road it may kick my heat on full blast for a couple of minutes, but as soon as I hit another bump, the heat kicks off. Also, the dash controls for the vents won't allow me to turn up the power. I checked the fuses and they are fine. Is this something that can be easily fixed?
