The message center display is blank
INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to Section 413-01 .
see owners manual for information
Principles of Operation
The message center is a vacuum fluorescent display, part of the instrument cluster. The message center electronic functions use both hardwired, standard corporate protocol (SCP), and UART based protocal (UBP) communication networks to transmit and receive information. As a technician it is very important to understand:
where the input (command) originates from.
all the information (messages) necessary in order for a feature to operate.
which module(s) receive(s) the input or command message.
does the module which receieved the input (message) control the input of the feature, or does it output a message over the SCP communication network to another module?
which module controls the output of the feature.
The message center provides the following features:
system check messages
The message center information can be selected through a set of three bottons:

Change the engine oil and filter. If your car is not equipped with a Driver Information System, then locate the reset button under the right side of the instrument panel and depress it to reset the light.
If your car is equipped with a Driver Information System, then place the ignition switch to the Accessory or Run position. Push the 'oil' button on the Driver Information Center panel to display the oil message.
Push the 'oil' and 'reset' buttons simultaneously for 5-10 seconds.
The display should now read 'oil life 100%'. Repeat if necessary.
Do not attempt to intentionally trick or accidentally reset this system as this will only hurt you in the long run. The system cannot be set to any other value except 100%.
Display "OIL LIFE RESET" on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
Press and hold the "ENTER" button for at least one second. An "ACKNOWLEDGED" display message will appear for three seconds or until the next button is pressed. This will tell you the system has been reset.
Turn the key to "LOCK/OFF". If the "CHANGE OIL SOON" message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
oh thats the change oil light expect it every 3500 to 4500 miles they glow.. you can usually reset it by holding down the trip button with the car off and then turn the key to the II position where everything lights up
so read me >>>>> Buick Rainier 2004-06, Buick Rendezvous 2002-05 w/o (DIC) Driver Information Center
Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three time in five seconds. If the CHANGE OIL SOON’ indicator flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the key to OFF, then start the vehicle. If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator comes on and stays on for five seconds, repeat the procedure. Buick Rainier 2004-05 wI (DIC) Driver Information Center
The DIC display is located on the instrument panel cluster above the steering wheel. The DIG buttons are located on the steering wheel. Press button with the gas pump symbol to display engine oil life. Press button with the arrow symbol to reset engine oil life display. Buick Rendezvous 2002-06 wI (DIC) Driver Information Center
To reset Service Reminder Indicator, turn ignition on with engine not running. Press the MODE button until DIC reads oil life left hold SET to reset. Press and hold the SET button until 100% is displayed. You will hear three chimes and the change oil message will go out. If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL’ message comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
There are a couple of options for clearing the light depending on the features you have on your Cobalt.
If you have a DIC (driver information center) located in the bottom center of your instrument panel cluster or speedometer area, you should have a mode and set button to the left of the steering column. You can use the mode button to scroll through the options until you find the "oil life" percentage the us the set button, push and hold until you see the 100% displayed.
If you do not have the DIC, you can turn the ignition key to the "run" position ( do not start the car) and push the accelerator pedal to the floor and back 3 times in a row then turn the key off. That should clear the light for you.
Good luck and let me know.
THE OIL PAN IS GOING TO BE THE LARGEST PAN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE. THERE WILL BE ONLY ONE PLUG ON IT. TO RESET THE OIL CHANGE REMINDER FOLLOW THESE STEPS. TURN THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION, BUT DO NOT START THE VEHICLE. WHILE THE KEY IS ON PUSH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR THREE TIMES. THIS WILL RESET THE OIL REMINDER.
Most cars have a dimmer switch located next to the steering wheel and it can be turned unknowingly when working around the wheel. Look for yours and see if this is your problem. I had this happen to me when I sent my eclipse to the repair shop and the whole dash was dim, it took me about 2 weeks before I stumbled onto this switch. Good luck.
