Front windshield defroster not engaging on 1999 - 1500 Silverado

The fan blower works fine. I replaced the fan selecter switch thinking it was the problem. Switch has 3 controls. One for the fan. One for heat and cold and one for routing the air. When I flip the switch so that the air should be diverted to the front windshield (defroster), it does not occur. Air continues to flow through the dash panel ducts and not the front windshield. I cannot get the air to flow through the air duct for the front windshield. What can I do to troubleshoot as to why my front windshield defroster does not function? Are there fuses that may be causing this problem? Could this be an electrical or mechanical with the air duct valve? Any help, guidance or schematics on the system would be greatly appreciated.

I just went thru this problem with my 95 1500. on mine it was the controls just like you discribe on yours one for fan one for temp and one for settings.first i thought it was the heater blend door acturator. its located on left side of heater next to the gas peddel. pulled the wire plug out and test for power theres 3 wires to this plug one white one brown and one black. the brown wire was hot with key on the black is ground and the white is the one that sends a siginal to this electric motor witch redirects air flow from floor to dash vents to defrost. i had to order the controls thru autozone 135.00 with shipping. you might get lucky and find one at a bone yard the ones in my area dident have any. i almost bet you will find thats your problem too. good luck OLD SCHOOL.

I have replaced the blower relay, the resistor looks fine, but blower won't work on my 1986 Silverado

Change the resistor. For the 15-20 bucks it's a great diagnostic and a very common problem with GM vehicles.
Then you can start backtracing the harness as ray012965 suggested.

My windshield defroster, heater, and air condition, fan isn't blowing air out when turned on, could the blower be out or a fuse blown.

may be a fuse, switch or blower. I would check all my fuses inside as well as under my hood, if they are all good, then I would check my switch, label all wires before disassembling, if switch checks out good then it will have to be the motor blower itself. Hope this helps Tim

1999 chev silverado a/c compressor won't kick in, what could cause this? it is charged correct.

Compressor clutch winding could be bad or the pressure switch which completes the circuit to engage the a/c clutch....also check the fuse.
If you have the compressor mounted down low on the front pass side.....check to see if the belt is there.
That mounting position uses a separate small belt and the idler bearing sometimes seizes up and throws the belt.(hard to see)
TIP.Add your own power to the clutch wiring or jump the pressure switch to check circuits and A/C clutch.

The fan/blower only works on the high setting.

It probably is the fan switch itself. They are around $30. for a new one. You can take it out and check to see if you have power to all the settings with a ohm meter or test light. They are not real hard to take out.

Blower motor vent selection switch not working

the hvac selector switch in the dash may be the problem. You need to remove the switch and look at the connector on the back of switch, see if there are any burnt wires at the connector or switch. It's all electronic and the switches have been known to burn out on this and other model.

Defrost fan quit working.

Check it with a test light or Multimeter for power to blower motor first, with switch on high. If no power to motor, problem is elsewhere. Here's a link that will help you. Click on the pictures to expand.

Defroster & floor blowers don't work but front facing vents do

There are what they call mode door's these days they have a electrical motor that turnes the door to different posistions...sounds like yours is become broken. It would depend on your expertise in the ac & heating system area to replace the part. Sometimes easy and most of the times the dash has to be removed.

A/c heater climat control switch

Check the relais module located inside under the rh side of the heather box you can see the connector most of them need to be replaced as they burn out you may need to replace the blower motor as well, high amp draw caused by faulty bearings will overload the blower motor controller
