do you mean it wont go in gear unless you rev up the egine and the whine noise sounds like your release bearing in the tranny needs to be replaced......

I would definately change the clutch kit. sounds like its a little weak. its not disengaging the clutch all the way. thats why you have to rev up the engine. for it to catch up.

I agree, I believe it is your release bearing. Your clutch might be going out.

What is the correct repair (chilton, haynes, whatever) manual for the 2003 kia rio (5/spd man trans,W a/c & p/s)??

I like Haynes better than Chilton and don't know the origins of this download but the price is very fair at ~$12 US. Not as convenient as a hard copy but your choices may be limited:

throw out bearing might be going bad and the bad part about that is you have to pull the tranny and clutch just to replace it so you might as well do the clutch at the same time

Kia Rio revs, won't go in any gear

your post is 1 year old. i started helping others 1 week ago. as a fellow rio owner im here to help there are currentl over 5000 un answered posts. if you still need help re-post your problems .its free to get your check engine light checked at most auto parts stores . write down the codes and meanings. 03 kia rio's are blue booked at about $500.
if you re-post with a code you can get faster help. if your car dont have a code . its hunt and guess . my guess would be throtle position sensor, knock sensor or mass air flow

2003 kia rio no power

Is the engine light on? If not it could be mechanical. The engine sounds like it is suffocating. This could be because of your catalytic converter, air or fuel filter. Take a look at the vehicles repair/maintenance history and go from there. If the car has over 100k miles then you may need the CAT.
