Question about 2004 Land Rover FreeLander

Freelander shuddering and gerking when accelerating in 3rd & 4th

Hi there, i've got 2003 freelander se petrol car. I've recently noticed that when i accelerate in 3rd or 4th gear it starts to **** and shudder as if there's no fuel getting to the engine. After a few seconds in stops as if the petrol has got through and it's fine again. I know less that nothing about cars but that is the only way to explain it. It starts first time every time and there's always petrol in the tank. Any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks Dan.

More than likely you are having an engine missfire. They are reknowned for problems with the coil packs that produce the spark for the plugs. They it up the road and labour the engine until it does it on full throttle. then back of the throttle to see if it stops. |Then back on to see if it starts again. Most likely it will. Change the plugs first. this will probably cure it short time as new plugs reduce the load on the coil packs. Best change coil packs though also.
Cheers
John

Freelander TD4 diesel has a chain (mega bucks), L series diesel (pre BMW engine) has a belt (plus a small belt for the injection pump). the K series 1,8 petrol and KV6, 2.5L also have belt's.

No timing belts

Rotate the crankshaft so that the notch alligns with the "safe" arrow. The camshaft notches should face each other.

Where is the fuel filter as I am servicing my 1999 freelander and need to change the fuel filter

Lefthand side of the engine compartment bulkhead, if its a diesel, beneath the rear seat, (fold down), remove inspection panel, and remove pump, filter is inside, for petrol.

Landrover Freelander Serengeti Diesel 2.0 2003

Sounds like the wheel balance is out on the new tyres, if the rears are out of balance expect the car to shake, if the fronts are out expect the steering to shake.
Best thing is to take it back and have the balance checked. Also good idea to stay with the same make and type of tyres all round.

Regards
Chris
