Question about 1998 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

Gas Gauge Occasionally Falls then Returns to Normal

I have a '98 Grand AM and on a few occasions (yesterday it happened three times, but has only happened twice before then over the span of months) my gas gauge plummets all the way to E and chimes the low gas chime, then, in a second or two, the gauge goes right back to it's normal position.

It still correctly reads how much gas is in my car, it just randomly dips down to Empty and then back up. The times it's happened the car has been in various degrees of full, never close to empty.

2003 grand marquis trouble code po 128. Heater works. 100 mile trips no problem. Temp gage below C. New sensor or new thermostat?

Well code 128 is for a thermostat problem in the fact the engine is not reaching normal temp. If you have heat the engine is warming up but still may not be getting to normal range. Normal is 190 - 210 degrees.
I would replace the thermostat first and see what happens.

What can cause a 98 Saturn SL to slam into reverse

Hi

Check the air mass sensor, clean it with carb cleaner and then refit if you need info on how to do this let me know. the clunk into gear is only because the car is stalling most likely.

Let me know if you need more info?

Oil pressure guage intermitently falls to zero when idling. The dashboard "check gauge" light comes on. Has happened on three different occasions out of about 20 driving excursions. When it isn't happening...

My jeep also has started doing this. I replaced the oil pressure sensor. Sensor on the 4.7 is above the oil filter, follow the wires, typicaly is a 1 1/16 socket.

98 Grand Cherokee 4whl drv 4.0 ltr. The fuel gauge works sometimes and other times it doesn't. You can shut the motor off and restart it and the fuel gauge will work for awhile sometimes but not everytime!

It sounds as if the sending unit (located in the tank) is wearing out
Does it work better at some capacities then at others if so the is the sending unit. I know I have seen some gauges read fine at nearly full to 3/4 tank, after which the gauge falls right to zero.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

Intermittent problem with fuel gauge staying on empty

HI, i would go ahead and replace the sending unit in this vehicle. sea foam is good stuff and, if it did not fix this erratic gauge, it must be a malfunctioning sendi8ng unit. a bad ground would cause the gauge to read full all the time so, i wouldn't worry about the ground being bad at this time.

This is a faulty sending unit and, i would replace it asap if possible.
