The crank shaft pulley have come off of the harmonic balancer on my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse, V6, 3.0L, 24 valve engine. What is the best method for removing the harmonic balancer from the crank shaft for replacement. Will this require a special tool? Please advise.
-   Mitsubishi Eclipse 3.0 Harmonic Balancer- Is there a special tool that holds the balancer while loosening the bolt? Part #
I tried a 1/2 impact but it wouldnt budge. I can get a 1/2 breaker bar on the bolt but havent been able to hold onto the balancer.
Any help is appreciated-   jeffdollens
There is a panel inside the wheel well that you can take off that gives you perfect access to the harmonic balancer. A special tool is required. i had my dad make one because he has access to whatever he needs at the factory. but you can get them at the dealer. i have no clue how much they cost. I can't see any way of doing it without the special tool. after you get the tool its pretty simple to get off. it takes alot of force to break the bolt loose though. i used the handle off my jack as a cheater bar. hope this helps...
it should slide right off just remove the 4 12 ml bolts you dont have to remove the 22ml it holds the tbelt pulley only but you will have to remove the engine mount to let the engine drop so you can remove it from the car so have a jack handy to move the motor with
