You will need to remove the hub assembly and you will need to press out the bearing, also this bearing will need to be changed for a new one as it will be damage when removing the bearing. You are better off buying a 2nd hand hub and bearing its more expensive to get them replaced than to get just the studs replaced even tho they are like 2 pounds each its the labour involved.

    so what are you asking

hi from uk if the wheel is held on by a nut that screws onto the stud ? therefor remove wheel then remove the brakecaliper and its carrier to facilitate removal of disc/rotor you now have to tap the broken studs backwards from the hub then you will see the studs have fine splines for locating into hub splines? now you simply tap in new studs as much as possible from rear then pull fully home using wheel nut reversed so flat side is inwards? then reassemble is reverse to stripdown

Hyundai in all their wisdom decided to use captive dust shields on the disc brakes. You need to completely disassemble the hub to get the shield off. On my 2008 Accent there is one spot that if you rotate the rotor to that spot and bend the shield back you can then get the stud in place. Be sure to get the right stud as the rear and front are probably different part numbers.

To get the old out use a hammer and a punch to pound them out the back. To get a new one in push it in as far as you can, then using something as a spacer (large nut or washers) and the wheel lug, tighten the stud up drawing it into the rotor.

SOURCE: Instructions to replace sheared off lugs / studs - 1997 Chevy

You need to remove the wheel of course. It depends on if the silverado is like the 1997 GMC 3/4 ton K2500 4x4. If so, then the easiest way is to remove the hub with the rotor because on the GMC the lug bolts go through both making them one unit. I just changed out the lugs on a 1997 GMC as mentioned above while replacing the ABS / wheel bearing hub assembly in which I had found to be the easiest procedure. Place the unit on the bench and look to locate the back of the lug nuts so you can see if there is anything else you may want to do to make things easier and then drive the lugs out in the steps that follow. If the lugs are part of the rotor and not driven through the hub assembly and into the rotor, then you would simply remove the rotor and lay it on something flat, clean and sturdy and use a drift or center punch with a persuasion tool such as a hammer to drive them out by placing the punch on the face of the sheered side of the stud and smack the punch with a hammer driving it out the back side. You then you put the new one on by pushing it through the hole from the back side of the rotor and tap it in until fully seated. Put everything back together and safe travels.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: 2003 hyundai elantra gls front wheel stud broke

grab a large punch and hammer and knock out the old broken one. Push the new one in and re tighten. This will pull it into place and because it has splines it should not spin while doing so.

Sheared front lug

First remove wheel from car. Next take large hammer and drive whats left of lug out, you may need to use a punch if sheared off below hub hight. Now insert new lug stud in from back side of hub and use a open style lug nut (like those you see on old cars without nice wheels) and put on upside down, flat side towards hub. tighten up by hand then use socket to tighten down untill stud is pulled in all the way. In some cases you may need to use a few washes under nut to give enough room for shank on stud.

Broke stud on front left side

Yes you can replace the broken wheel stud. The wheel studs are pressed into place, and a vise will work to press it out, and in. You will have to remove the wheel hub, and then use a deep well socket and a bolt or something smaller than the actual stud to remove it with a vise. To replace it, you will need to use the deep well socket on the thread side of the stud, and press the new one in with the vise.

I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck with your repair.

Bearing trouble

Ouch, get your wheel bearings checked. I had a 97 Hyundai and in the 3 years I had it, the front bearings had to be replaced twice and the rear once once.
