95 mazda 626 wont get out of park

The 95 mazda 626 automatic, will not get out of park. The shifter will move but the car will not go into gear, I have heard that there is a cable that connects to the trans that maybe loose , the question I have by this link is where the cable is located and how to fix. Is it under the car and I have to jack it up or do I take loose the shifter and it is under there, help needed? I am a novice repair guy but I can repair a lot of things

It is under the shirter AND it connects to the transmission under the hood. I beleive on that model you would need to jack the car up possibly loosen the tans to get to the side connected to the trans.

97 mazda 626 wont shift from park. release button on side of shifter wont push in. removed knob, plastic rod in center wont move

The 1st thing you need to do is check the brake lights, if they are not wiorking the park lock solenoid doesn't get power and the park lock remains engaged.

My car stopped starting.

Based on the information you have supplied, the car is not shifting in to the correct position. So when you try starting the car , it will not allow the starter to crank thinking it is not in park (which it is reverse) I suspect that the shifter cable from lever to the transmission has become stretched over time and use. It can be adjusted at the transmission to shift cable hook up. The connection at the lever base could have also get disconnected. Try that first

When I change gears the switch that changes the gears comes loose

yes you need to go to the dealer and ask for a shifter bushing, it is small and clear and about 8 dollars. it takes a little time to get it in but with a little lube and patience it will be back to normal in no time.

Will not go into gear

parking pawl is not biting WOW !!!if the linkage is okay from shifter to transmission the parking pawl ( a metal arm ) that locks the sun shell or known as the direct clutch drum is broken mechanically... check the linkage first ... and check the movement of the manual valve. thats the valve your gear shifter moves you can see it move if you drop the pan....

95 mazda 626 automatic transmition....will not reverse

Check you transmission fluid level and if it's not your transmission, I'm thinking that your brake shoe lineing in the rear brakes may have separated and is jamming up aginst the drums when your trying to back up. Sorry can't halp you with any more, good luck and start with that and hope it help's.
