SOURCE: 1990 toyota camry gas gauge quit working

Either fuel sensor is bad or coated with sulfur residue from inferior gas. Try a can of Sea Foam gas treatment OR can of Techuron concentrate. Both available at auto parts and , of course, Walmart ! Add to full gas tank, drive 75 - 100 miles and see if all is well. If not, condide4 sensor change

Do i have to drop the gas tank to change the gas pump on a 2011 gmc acadia? Also if the fuel level sensor is bad will the car shut down if the gage says it is emty but it is not?

Yes the fuel tank has to come out to change the fuel pump. But are you sure that is the problem ? Your vehicle has a Fuel Pump Flow Control Module (electronic's ) Or is it just your fuel level sensor you want to replace ? And to your question of if the fuel level sensor is bad will the car shut down if the gage says it is emty but it is not? No ,this will not shut down the vehicle. You probably have no idea of the complexity of the electronic's involved an the thing's that can cause the gauge not to work .
Fuel Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the fuel level as determined by the ECM. The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:
• The ECM detects a malfunction in the fuel level sensor circuit.
• The IPC detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM
• The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the ECM
When the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value, the low fuel indicator illuminates in the IPC.
Unless you have a factory or professional type scan tool your better off taking your vehicle to a qualified repair shop.

Fuel Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
Circuit/System Description
The fuel level sender changes resistance based on the fuel level. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the signal circuit of the fuel level sender to determine fuel level. When the fuel tank is full, the sender resistance is low and the ECM senses a low signal voltage. When the fuel tank is empty, the sender resistance is high and the ECM senses a high signal voltage. The ECM uses the signal circuit of the fuel level sender in order to calculate the remaining fuel level percent in the tank. The ECM sends the fuel level message via the serial data circuit to the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends the fuel level percent to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) via the serial data circuit for display on the fuel gage.

My fuel gauge isnt working, it sayed over Full untill i hit half a tank then showed on F then 1/2 a tank was actually Empty. what could be wrong?

The fuel sending unit has a rhetrostat its a variable resitor ..As fuel is added the fuel lever mover along the rhetrostat and gives resitor signal to the fuel guage, the fuel gauge interpets this as level indicators to show on the gas tank.

My arrow showing me how much gas I have never moves off of full? What is the problem?1999 Toyota Camry

It is likely the fuel sending unit in the fuel tank is burnt out at the top end which means it does not record the fuel level above a certain level.

You will have to replace this. Be careful about safety when dealing with fuel systems.

Dash pannel fuel indicator lamp shows empty but tank full

This would be very common of the fuel pump and level module in the tank. The module from auto zone runs about $280. This must be purchased as a module and replaced. The tank then needs to be dropped out of the car to make this repair. Let me know if you need further instructions to complete this.

Fuel indicator

OK, your fuel indicator is wired to a sending unit that is located inside the fuel tank. this assembly is part of the fuel pump assembly. the fuel indicator sending unit is housed in the same assembly as the fuel pump. The fuel indicator will not function properly if there is a bad ground or, if there is a fault within the sending unit. there is a floater device attached on this assembly and, it raises with the fuel level and lowers when the fuel level is low, sending resistance signals to the indicator gauge on your dash board. these signals can be disrupted if the ground is corroded or, if the sending unit is damaged. In most cases, replacing the sending unit will fix this issue. if the fuel indicator is stuck on the full mark, check the ground. if the fuel gauge is laying on empty all the time, replace the sending unit.

2004 Camry XLE fuel gauge problem

Check online in other forums of this particular issue. Others may have had the same issue and have found answers through other sites online. Sound like a bad sending unit "fuel gauge sensor". Unfortunatly, it may be a requirement to remove the fuel tank to gain access to this fuel sensor. If you dont have the means to repair this problem you can always keep track by the mileage that you put on your vehicles tripometer. I know thats a pain but it wont cost you any money until you choose to have the repair done.Estimate your mpg's and the size of your fuel tank by the gallons, and multiply the two. Be sure to keep track and have enough fuel not to run out! Its always better to keep half a tank than an eighth of a tank!
