Question about 1999 Volvo S80
Check the coolant expansion bottle for level, and top-up if needed. If it seems fine, replace the sensor.
In cold weather - check antifreeze content. The simple way is to take a little out with a turkey baster, and put in a small pot in a freezer at -20. If it freezes - add more antifreeze!
Also check for leaks or dampness at the bottom of the radiator - a common fail point; and on the engine block below the timing belt area.
