Engine falls below 500rpm lights dim and engine stalls out

A 1997 pontiac grand prix super charged, car works fine 80% of the time.then idle will fall below 500rpm run rough, all lights will dim,if i hold the idle up it will recover it self, now when it starts doing that, car will dye out but will re-start.thought i smelled plastic burning.and on rare ocassions after the car dyes out you try to re-start and there is nothing at all.but if you try again it will start.could this be bad wiring to the starter.

I had a bad air conditioner compressor that caused this same problem. It had almost completley seized and gave the car some real trouble starting. The burning smell I had was caused from the belt rubbing around the seized pully.

This seems like the reason why the idle is rough may be because the supercharger is bad.

You need to get your test equipment checked. Your battery will not survive nor will the car start with those voltages. It needs to be about 11 to start. The terminal voltage should be about 13.8 when charging.

My 1993 pontiac grand prix with the 3.1 engine stalls when it idles at a stop light but it starts right back up. it has plenty of power. we changed the o2 sensor did the vaccum leaks and ths spark plugs....

The next thing to try in regards to the stalling would be to change out the Throttle Position Sensor this sensor is the usual cause of this symptom.

1997 pontiac grand prix with major issues

check all fuses for turn signal and brake lights.change fuel filter . first. do a little tune up change spark plugs and wires . if changing fuel filter dont help. have fuel pressure check first before buying a new fuel pump .they run after taxes 400.00 dollars. your fuel pressure should be 41 to 47 psi. replace fuel pump relay also.
