Run your tests before you start buying your parts. verify that your fuel pressure is acceptable. a defective fuel pressure reg., clogged fuel filter, tired fuel pump, fuel injector, loose or damaged wiring to the injector or coil, maybe water in the gas or too much fuel cleaner/additive.

SOURCE: engine light on 2003 Grand Marquis code p 2197 "lean"

the very 1st thing u do is have the trouble code checked that turned on the light, there are well over 200 possible reasons for a check engine light, a fuel filter is not one of them.

SOURCE: how do I change the thermostat 2000 grand marquis

It needs to sit in a recess in the housing, typically if you are asking the question that you are asking, the thermostat housing may be bent or cracked. If it is nto installed correctly, it kills the housing...Must be perfectly true, and sqaure....

I am not sure about the gasket, if it came with, use it, some designs use o ring to seat the thermostat, others use o ring as seal...

i normally seal it anyways...

Instead of shifting to overdrive trans goes from 1-3 then N. can i fix this with a shift solenoid? 2003 merc. grand marquis.

It is not going into neutral. Your overdrive band is fried on your transmission. Typical problem on these transmissions. Transmission will need to be completely disassembled to get to the overdrive band. Complete overhaul. Recommended when you read the owners manual to not drive these uphill for long periods of time without shifting to regular drive.

Where is the thermostat located on a 1997 grand marquis?

Follow the upper radiator hose down to the engine to the intake manifold, you will find the thermostat housing, under it is the thermostat. Couple of bolts and hose clamps, and your there. Good luck, dont forget to rate.
