Service engine light came on when I was breaking for stop light and started to sputter like I was running out of gas in my 2005 Nissan Quest

Check the fuel filter to see if it is plugged.
Remove the fuel filter, and blow air through it in the normal direction of fuel flow. You should be able to blow through it very easily. If it feels restricted, try blowing through it the opposite way, and if there is a lot of dirt coming out, you have found a common cause of this problem. Hope this helps.

Replace your fuel filter and check your spark plugs and wires.
Have the computer scanned for codes. Once you know the codes ou will have a much better idea of what the problem is.
Three option for this
1 buy a code reader for about $50 and pull cos yourself
2 call you local parts store to see if the can pull codes for you.
3. Bring the vehicle to your local garage or dealer and have them do a diag. There is usua
Ly a set fee for this.
Once you have the code or codes post them and I'll see what I can do to help.

the first thing I would start with is looking for vaccume leaks. be sure to check your EGR valve, then move to your MAP sensor. The next thing that it could be is a stopped up catylic converter
