Converiable top switch will not retract?

I have a 92 mustang convert. Recently the switch for my top will only work when closing the top, but when I try and open the top up nothing happens? I can hear the motor when I go to close the top but not when I am trying to open it?

Although the problem cut be an open in one of the wires, most likely it is the switch itself.
It is a double post-double throw switch that could be easily and inexpensively replaced.
Make a numbered label or use colored tape for each wire and make sure they are secured to the wires. Make a drawing that shows which terminal each wire goes to.
Cut the wires close to the switch. If the reversing switch is externally wired you will see that there are two wires that form an X connected to the outside terminals; the new switch will have to be wired the same way.
Take the switch to an auto parts store and tell them you want a double post-double throw switch with the same or greater amperage.
Try to get one with screw terminal, or 1/4" blade connectors[for which you will need to crimp 1/4 female blade connectors on the wires] or you will have to solder the wires back to the sw.
If your old switch isn't externally wired you will need to ask the parts place or an electrician how to wire a reversing switch.

2012 Volvo C70 convertible. The top is stored, trunk lid opens as normal, then everything stops. Have to wait maybe 30 minutes then I can successfully close the top back down.

Question moved from spanish car maker 'Seat' (See-At).
Question edited for clarity. Guessing it is a Volvo, so moved it there. 'Year Make Model' in all question please.

Try, it just be aware of pinch points and get ready to move fast. Also have someone at the ignition key ready to cut power in case anything jams.

Chrysler Sebring 2008 convertible top malfunction message

As long as the trunk is open, It won't work. The top has it's own computer. Have the codes read. Takes a scanner. These have like 20 sensors and switches for the top and trunk. You can try to close the latch on the trunk with a screwdriver to get it to work. Another thing is there is a cover that pulls out . This has to be pulled out and latched in place. This will keep it from working also.

Convertible top won't go back up, can you help?

IT is probably a fuse. Does it work at all? my mustang had a busted cylinder and only 1 side would go up. If it doesnt work at all then check your fuses. With no manual you will have to use a flashlight and shine on them and see if one is blown. IF they all look good then I would go buy a testlight for about $10 and manually check the fuses for power. It oculd be the motor, however that will cost you several hundred dollars and that is if you install it yourself.

Courtesy light will not go off

Is the courtsey lamp knob turned on?

If not, it sounds like a bad door switch, courtesy light switch, or shorted wiring. Open the driver's side door and locate the door switch, it is usually near the hinges somewhere. Examine the switch and too see if any parts appear broken or snapped off. Rapidly push the switch in and out a few times and see if it has any effect on the lamp. Do the same with the passenger door switch. Also try rapidly turning the courtsy light switch knob on and off.

If you don't notice anything, you can try removing the switches and testing it with a multi meter or continuity meter. Both of these tools are available at an auto parts store if you do not own one. Let me know if you need help removing and testing the switch.
