Sometimes there is a plastic strainer in the gas tank and when they break down they will clog the fuel pick up. After the suction stops the pieces settle until the next time.

Ever replace the fuel filter or check for fuel getting through the filter?

Besides the inertia sensor which needs to be manually reset, some of these motors had an inline fuel pressure regulator. Another area can be a crankshaft sensor which adjusts fuel pressure to RPM.

Believe the inline pressure regulator works off vacuum so the "check engine light" would not diagnose. On the other hand, the crankshaft sensor should generate a trouble code. Curious as to what you find.

You mention no check engine light, and all the work you've done leave one solution; Your catalytic converter is clogged.

When you replace you catalytic converter your issues will cease. This is a very common problem, and a simple fix.

I hope this information helps and I wish you luck with your repair.

SOURCE: 1994 ford ranger interminant fuel pump problems

Loose connection is the problem. It takes petience to find where it is at. Do some wiggling on wires to see where it is.

SOURCE: 2001 Ford Ranger cranks but doesn't start periodically

If it has a distributor it is possible that the reluctor / stator has a broken wire. preventing the computer from firing the engine. This can be intermitant and would require the removal of the distributor. If the engine has a crank shaft sensor then this may be a possible place for a broken wire or bad connection. Location for these can be on the harmonic damper at the from=nt of the engine or located at or near the flywheel......

Silly suggestion i know from a professional mechanic but try leaving the fuel cap loose in case its not drawing air into the tank and its creating a vacumn in the tank which means that the fuel pump cannot draw fuel up .Try that for a day or so and if it doesnt work then keep this post on your Email and get back to me .The clue is the petrol in the carb intake and if iam right drill a small vent hole in teh filler cap

I have a 1994 4 cylynder automatic ford ranger. the truck will only start when it wants to, it could 15 minutes, or up to a month. I,ve replaced the main brain, the ignition module, 3 times, battery,...

My next thing to check would be the fuel pressure. It sounds like the fuel pump is not doing a good job to me. I say this thinking the system is getting fire.

05 ford ranger 3.0 xlt fuel pump???

I had this same issue. There is an inertia switch located below glove box. Mine went bad. Here is what I wrote to another person with the similar problem:

I have a 2005 Ranger Edge. I had the same problem. I did two things. First I replaced the fuel pump and it worked again for about 2 months. Then it stopped working again so I replaced the inertia switch with a new one from the Ford Dealership. It worked again for about a month. Than it stopped again, so I replaced the wiring that goes from the inertia switch to the main box on the bottom right passenger side. I also put the inertia switch inside the casing on the lower right so it couldn't be kicked. It has been working for 2 weeks now. I hope nothing else happens.

On another note, I had another electrical problem. My speedometer cluster stopped working and my mechanic found loose wires rubbing against metal on the inside. I think the electrical components on these Ford Rangers are just cheaply made. That is the only thing to check for you now. If it isn't the fuel pump or the inertia switch, just check all the wiring from fuel pump to inertia switch to make sure it is all done correctly. Also check all fuses for fuel pump/inertia switches.

Sometimes I say I and mean a mechanic, I am not a car expert, but would like to be.
