Dust/Particulate is coming from passenger floor vents. Engine vitals are good. Is it the cabin air filter?
Started when I turned on the the defroster. It only occurs when I'm using air/heat/air conditioning, when the system is off I do not see any dust/particulate/smoke. Does not have a sweet smell (I hear that tends to be heater core issues, sweet= ethylene glycol).

im not sure sounds like my problem but my 2001 grand ch.does it only from the right half of the vents .i heard it was the code p0161 o2 2/1 heater circuit oxygen sensor heater element malfunction code p0158 o2 2/2 shorted high oxygen sensor input voltage maintained above the normal operating range
Yes it's the heater core, It's a complicated diy job and unless you are an experienced mechanic you are going to need a good workshop manual for the job.
There is a vacuum leak under the hood somewhere. Check the vacuum at the speed control servo. If there is no vacuum on the line with the engine running, follow the line to find the leak. The vacuum reservoir is mounted under the battery tray. I would look in that area after confirming no vacuum at the servo.

Changing the cabin air filter is fairly easy to do if you follow this how-to guide. New vehicles usually come equipped with one or more cabin air filters. A cabin air filter provides fresh air through the passenger compartment side vents.
Step-By-Step Guide
The first thing you need to do is locate your owner's manual to find out if your vehicle is equipped with a cabin air filter. If you can't find the information, then your car is probably not equipped with a cabin air filter. However, if you would like to be sure, call your favorite parts store and they can provide you with the information.
When you purchase the new cabin air filter, be aware that there are 2 types of filters. One is called the particulate; the other is called the activated charcoal. The particulate filters out road dust, bacteria, mold spores, pollen and other pollutants. The activated charcoal filters the above mentioned and filters harmful gasses and odors. People who drive around in gridlock or have an odor problem might consider buying the activated charcoal, though it is more expensive.
After purchasing the filter, make sure you have your eye protection, gloves, ratchet, socket and screwdriver before beginning the procedure.
Remove the glove compartment. Usually, vehicles are equipped with bolts and screws to hold the glove compartment in. Your glove compartment may have tabs as well, so be careful when removing the compartment and use the tabs to remove.
After removing the bolt and the screws, remove the glove box frame.
Locate the filter housing. Look for a removable plastic filter cover.
Remove the filter. Most under-dash filters can be removed simply by opening the filter door.
Before installing the new filter, vacuum the filter chamber to remove any excess particles. You may also take a damp cloth and wipe the inside of the air filter chamber to clean out unwanted dust and particles.
only one way and thats custom make a old air filter from a car whcih will then be able to filter the air and connect it to the heater intake somehow with some plastic waste pipe and duct tape and invent something ,use your artist talents
Check drain and unclog if required. Remove air cabin filter (see you tube for instructions). Make sure it is done in a clean place so no dust or dirt gets in while you do this. Block Air Cabin filter opening with duct tape. Set fan to 50% (3/4), temperature to minimum AC must be OFF Open hood and using a Spray bottle, spray half a bottle of Alcohol 70% into the air intake vents at bottom of windshield Turn off fan Let it sit for 30 to 60 min Set temperature to max and fan to max Open hood and using a Spray bottle, spray the second half (250ml) of a bottle of Alcohol 70% into the air intake vents at bottom of windshield. Turn heater and fan OFF Take off duct tape and replace the air cabin filter (new one is better) If you don't take off the air cabin filter, a lot of the alcohol or disinfenctant (like Lysol) may be stuck in the filter causing an irritating smell. Replace Air cabin filter if possible.
A lot of auto parts come in the form of a filter which is designed to
remove impurities and foreign objects from a stream of gas or liquid. A
typical car employs an oil filter, a transmission filter, a fuel
filter, and an air filter. However, there is yet another type of filter
which is least common to car owners. The cabin air filter, also
referred to as the passenger compartment filter, the pollen filter, the
dust filter, or the interior ventilation filter is inherent in vehicles
manufactured in the 80s. More and more vehicles are now equipped with
cabin air filters, but what exactly is a cabin air filter? The cabin
air filter is tasked to eliminate almost all of the airborne elements
that come with the air that enters the passenger compartment. It is
guaranteed to enhance the quality of the air that goes around the
passengers area. The cabin air filter is attached under the dashboard,
behind the glove compartment or in the engine chamber. Your factory
cabin air filter may be worn and torn with use and time, which is why
an aftermarket Chevy
cabin air filter replacement is manufactured. The Chevy cabin air
filter replacement is designed to ideally replace your factory cabin
air filter which is created to top the performance of your old one. The
Chevy cabin air filter replacement is ideal to use because it helps
purify the air and remove particles that might cause the passengers
allergic reactions. It is highly beneficial not only to the car
occupants, but also of the car driver so that he will not get
distracted from controlling the maneuvers of the vehicle operation.
yes its two separate filter, one for the engine it goes straight into the intake of the motor and the other is for the cabin only, change every six month. hope that help
Remove the cowling that covers the vents below the windshield. This is where the cabin air filter is located. Should have two popup buttons and a screw button in the middle. Once cowling is removed, you will probably see a 2' long rubber gasket that has come loose and is probably hanging. Apply some silicone to the groove in the gasket and replace. Water is running down the windshield and into the cabin air filter area and down onto your floorboard. This is a good time to replace the filter while you have it off. Hope this helps.
If on either heat or AC your not get'n any air out of your vents but can hear your blower motor turning then i would say you need to replace your cabin filter.. it filters the air inside of your vehicle
The cabin air filter is located by the passenger floor board, if you have a dual or triple zone a/c unit. If the unit is just a single zone unit there is no cabin air filter.
Underneath the glove box (next to the floor) there is a rectangular cover. Remove the cover and the cabin air filter is located above that.
Just remove the filter and install the new one.
