1985 ford 250 diesel - Starter verese Battery

One day just would not turn over. Has two batteries in the truck, do both need to be full to turn the starter? is the solinoid on the starter or is it that located under the hood in the front left?

I think you're right. It might have both. Definatly has one on the fender wall. What do you mean by dont use either? Are you saying to bypass them both..Sorry for not understanding just unfamiliar. (If it was an outboard boat motor, it would be fixed already:)

Both batteries need to be fully charged. Some have solinoids on both the starter and the fender well. Don't use ether in that engine. It can cause engine damage.

I didn't mean to say either. Ether is a spray for diesel engines to help start them in cold weather.

I have 05 ford f-250 supper duty power stroke diesel new starter and still wont turn over when key is on the on position

If the starter is new, and the battery is charged, then something is preventing the engine from turning over.

Pull the glow-plugs, and turn it over. Does stuff shoot out of the holes? Head gasket blown...

If it still doesn't turn over, seized engine is likely.

My 01 ford f 250 7,3 diesel battery light on. put new alternator on & checked all fuses under hood & in cab .

maybe the battery is getting weak. try a new one. most of the time batteries in the super duty diesels only last 2-4 years at the max. Hope this helps you! Good-Day! make sure you are getting at least 14.2 or better at battery with engine running. with engine off, at battery there should be at least 12.6 or better. less than 12 volts battery is bad.

Ford 250 1983 diesel/new starter, crank/squealing noise

can you turn the engine by hand by putting a socket on the crank nut. ? also is the battery working correctly ?
check the earth and live lines check they have a good connection. when you replaced the starter motor did you check the condition of the flywheel and warn cogs can be a problem also some flywheels used to be none fixed. meaning they were heated on to the flywheel .and if its loose it will just slip on the flywheel.

Starts geat, runs good, but after driving 20 minutes and shut it off, wont turn over, like battery is dead, Battery posts unusually hot. all new parts.

Based on the information provided, it sounds like a bad starter. Even a bad starter when cold will start your car or truck. When a bad starter heats up, it requites more and more power to make it engage. If you've ruled out other possibilities, I'd consider replacing the starter.

Try replaceing the solinoid. Its under the hood on the passenger side. You will see the sarter wires and the battery wires connected to it. First disconnect the negative side of the battery. Then replace the solinoid.
