Left front wheel grabs and jerks me to the left when when in 4WD

My 4WD works, but it is very hard to keep under control. I can use it to for short periods of time to get into or out of a situation but cannot use it full time. My left front wheel will all of a sudden just seem to lock up as if it is going into 4 Low and **** me to the left. Can someone please give me some ideas as to what is going on?

Your brake caliber is not letting off after the brakes are applied. You need to replace you brake caliper on the side, but the best bet is to replace both sides, plus brake pads too.

When a strut is worn, what are symptons? How can one diagnose it? KIA Sephia 1998?..

some times you will get a bouncing in wheel ,nose dive in front end when stopping or hard breaking, did you try jacking up car so wheel is just off ground ,put a bar under tire and lift up observe wheel movement ,then do other wheels , if it is a strut the wheel will move up and down freely , look for fluid leaking around strut body ,5000 miles is not much of a factor things do break.the other is get the front end off the ground both wheels,SAFELY !!!!!! WITH THE CAR SHUT OFF WHEELS BLOCKED, have one person turn wheel while you observe it , look for anything wrong grab the wheel and try to move left to right (a small ) motion observe what happens ,is there wiggle ? with out moving steering wheel. if not sure of any of these ,PLEASE take it to a mechanic .hope this helps good luck. 2001 Subaru Legacy Lancaster is it 2WD or 4WD?

easiest way to tell if it is 2 wheel or 4 wheel is look under the car. From the front of the vehicle just off center (could be left or right) there will be a differential. (much like what you see under the rear of a pickup truck. If you see this it's a 4wd or awd. The difference between awd and 4wd is- 4wd is either front or rear wheel drive with the ability to (now days) push a button and "lock in" the other axel. Awd is at all times, all 4 wheels are working together to move the vehicle.

When car is in 4WD and i turn the car jerks?

This is likely normal believe it or not. In 4wd, the front tires are "locked" when you are moving forward or backwards with the wheel turned, one wheel will be "fighting" the other because they are now trying to travel around in 2 different diameter circles (left to right) This is why its not recommended thaty you drive in 4x4 on dry surfaces. Try the same thing in a snowy parking lot where the tires can slip a little and see if your "rubbing" has gone away or at least significantly lessened. Do be careful as running a 4 whl drive in the 4x4 position on dry surfaces can and eventually will cause damage. Please let me know how you make out or if you need any more help. Thanks and good luck!

How to tell if yoour Jimmy is in 4wd

You will have to look under the vehicle to see if there is a driveshaft running out from the transmission, towards the front of the truck, to the front axle. If no front drive shaft, then no 4WD.

check your front shaft end joints and if necessary front hub bearings. Ive also found that there often is some benefit to backing out the steering"stop" bolts on the lower control arms to limit turn radius a bit, preventing the joints from binding as easily.

My 2001 4wd will go into 4wd hi but...

turn the steering wheel to make a sharp turn to the left or right. if a hopping sensention is felt than the 4 wheel drive is working.
the 4 hi is a locking wheel drive and in a turn, since the outside wheels have to move faster than the inside,it builds up pressure in the driveshaft.
the weak link is the rubber to the road, and the hopping is the change in tire traction.
if there is no hopping, the 4x4 is not working.
