I am trying to find out what is making my front end grind on passenger side when i drive down the road on 2000 ford taurus

Check the front brake rotor. When the brake pads wear down too far they will make a grinding noise. I am not sure what sound the axle makes when they begin to wear out. I would check the boot that covers the axle joint for any damage.

How do I decide if it's the drive shaft or the CV joint?

It is easier to change the whole half shaft than it is to change just the CV joint.

Check all the plastic cowlings and air dams to make sure they are not loose and rattling in the wind when you drive down the road. Check the exhaust system for any broken or loose hangers. Hope this helps.

If you hear a clacking sound esp. while turning. Sound like your CV joints (constant velocity) or Front Wheel Drive axle.

Check the front drive shaft u-joint, and front cv shafts on the front axle, may be worn and need to be replaced. These parts will make a clicking or popping noise may sound like a thud sound.

Front passenger wheel makes rubbing sound then pops going over 55 mph

Is your brake light on and do the brakes work OK is there any pulling when you apply the brakes so dose it tend to pull the steering wheel one way. If none of this is happening the system is still working correctly. However its time to look at the system it could be a stickey calipar or something from the road shot up and got stuck in the brakes or it could be the front axle assambly at the joint or worped brake rotor. Its hard to say but if you do something about it now you will save money and parts down the road. Its trying to tell you that something is wrong good luck

Grinding rubbing sound from front axle and is not brakes?

More than likely a bad front wheel bearing. You may be able to jack up the front and feel a loose front wheel at the hub but often times you can't so you have to try and determine which one by driving the car. Try driving on a smooth road and gently do S turns down the road. The noise will usually come and go as you turn from side to side. Have someone else in the car to help you listen, sometimes it can be hard to determine which side and you have to just replace both, but really, they've both got the same mileage.
