1986 merc. topaz..wont start ??????????

My topaz would run well but a while ago it would sputter while on the road and i would have to clutch in and gas(while coasting neutral) to rev ou engine i change plugs and cables alot and changed feul filter often and this helped a little...but after a long freeze(usually started and ran well in winter) i went to start it and it cranks and you can hear the engine come close to sgtarting but after a ew seconds of cranking it becomes aparent that it is a lost cause. I heard trying a bottle of Heet to mayby see if it is frozen feul line but tht didn't work. i do notice that after cranking and stoping i hear a kind of electrical buzz of a motor or some device like in a solution i saw about a topaz on this site. maybe a feul pump or something?????please help

get the OBD I codes read , as could give the sensor/switch at fault , if any , although not as accurate as OBDII , also try a fuel addative , get one that covers the catalytic convertor as well as the valves , injectors etc as just may be a build up of deposits or blockage in injector , keep me posted if you wish

Car wont start, fuel line makes sputtering noise

I have a 1986 325e with high mileage 275,000. Car starts fine and idles ok. I'm experiencing an intermittent problem where when placed in drive the car will sputter, lightly backfire, and not move forward until i pump the gas and give it time to correct whatever is not operating properly. Then it runs just fine. I'm thinking it's an air or fuel issue. Just recently tuned up the car and put some bgk44 after the problem started but still experiencing the same problem.

Sputtering then stopped running and wont turn over.

Wont turn over are you sure as wont start is differant than wont run
Wont start could be Battery/starter/or engine siezed.
Wont run is not the same,,, that could be lacking power /low on oil/water/ Fuel/or even engine lacking power like down on compression which is all the above plus more ....
So check it out let us know again. Ron

I think your problem might be your fuel relay which is situated next to the fuse box in the engine compartment.
