Brake light problem

My brake lights went out on my 85 rx7. I've checked everything. Fuses, ran all the way down the wire harness to see if it got a short, and i checked the switch. The switch has a pos and neg going in. The pos worked however the neg wasn't getting a ground. So i spliced the wire and grounded it too the body. The switch was then working. But whenever i hooked it back up, nada. I'm a noob when it comes too electrical on cars. plzz help if you can!!

The switch should only have a pos or neg not both the most common is a pos set up, the light cluster will be earth to the body and the live will go to one side of the switch and when the switch is pressed travel from the other side down to the light cluster and the bulb will light up try this set up all so re check the loom as it sounds like it may be earthing some where from switch to light

No brake lights changed stop light switch nothing fuses r good??

You probably damaged the wire harness leading to the back of the car. I'm pretty sure it runs down the drivers side of the body/ frame under the car & into the trunk. Just look for damaged wires.

99 chevy tahoe back lights not workin top brake light works no tail lights brake lights or blinkers everything works in the front checked fuses replaced bulbs and stop light switch still nothing

Look where the wiring harness comes through the rear passenger compartment. Theres usually a junction that splits off then goes to the back tail lights, I beleive there is also a ground wire somewhere in the same vicinity. Sounds like theres a short in the harness at that junction or the ground is maybe loose or rusted and not making contact.

No break lights, fuse good, what next.

Get a simple meter and remove your bulb and see if there is power to the brake light. Prop your brake pedal down so you can check the power. You have to rule out the bulbs first. Check your owners manual for what relay controls your lights that might be a problem as well.

Headlights and running lights work on 92 f150 but turn lamps and brake lights will not come on..all fuses are good. Whats wrong?

If both lights went out at once, you may have to check the wiring harness underneath your steering column and right down under the dashboard. Check for loose or bad wires that need replacing. Check as well the relay if they are still working.

I had a problem with my trailer light wiring, everything was working except one light, I used an OHM meter and traced from the socket back to the next joint and found I had a broken wire, I split the factory harness and repaired the wire, you may have the same problem, mine was under the truck left side above the frame

there should be a little sensor somewhere behind the brake pedal at the top, if you have checked everything else, try replacing this. (easy job)
