Re: Do after market performance chips work ?
A legitimate replacement chip can maybe void the warranty, but also be made to change engine characteristics to supply more power or better economy but will not likely do both.
Otherwise, why wouldn't the manufacturer use different performance curve?
Beware of something offered by hundreds of 'affiliates' that does nothing but tamper with the air-fuel ratio and sells for $20-$80 US and 'installs in minutes.'
The vast majority of the 16,000+ offers on eBay are total frauds and many of the rest may alter the pollution output of the engine to the point that in some states could cost you even more than the chip.
Continue doing research before you spend even 'only a few bucks' on any of them.
I totally understand the urge, I still get it too, but lose it again after doing due diligence before ordering.

When you switch from 2HI to 4HI, you should hear two distinctive sounds from under the truck, one is the transfer case actuator and the other is the front differential actuator. If you hear both and you still do not have power going to the front wheels, then there is a problem with the front disconnect assembly.
Retighten lug nuts to specification at 500 miles (800 km). Failure to retighten lug nuts at milages specified could allow the wheel to come off while the vehicle is in motion, possibly causing loss of vehicle control or collision.
Lower vehicle and tighten lug nuts to 135 Nm (13.8 kgf-cm, 100 ft. lbs.) .
Install the wheel cover, if equipped.
Before driving the vehicle, pump the brake pedal several times to restore normal brake pedal travel.
The IWE is operated by a common vacuum system. When you say does not work, not sure what you are getting at ( only 1 wheel locks into place, or neither ).
Could be you had the vent and vacuum lines reversed, and this did not keep the IWE gear pulled out and it rounded off on the one you did not replace.
Is the issue the front axle does not lock in, or does the drive shaft not lock in at the transfer case ?
Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc ) Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft. If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case. If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.
When you get to this point, post back a comment to this problem with the info.
start by having all the wheels checked for balance. then move on to
check worn front suspension components. unless it is high mileage or wrecked, a 6 year old car generally will not have worn out front suspension parts.
NO,its what they selective 4wd,that means when a wheel starts to spin/loose traction, the power is transfered to another wheel with traction be it front or rear, bloody clever....some markets have a button on the dash to switch it to manual 4wd,but that only operates under 21 mph(for towing/out of mud etc)IT IS NOT QUATTRO.....(audi tradename)
try giving your car a simple service, change oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs and leads etc. also get your wheels aligned and balanced as having bad geo can also be bad for fuel consumption. if that doesnt work then id recomend a garage.
nap Z engine is a venerable work horse using dual ignition design but wont get much better mileage than you are experiencing now ... try larger tires..more air pressure. premium fuel every 10th tank full (unocal 76 , 91 octane).....free flowing air filter (K&N ) hotter spark plugs ..indexed prefereably...timing advanced slightly..tailgate down or install topper or tonneau bed cover... check jet chips or other co. for performance computer upgrade...good luck
