That clutch system in that vehicle uses a pull type not a push type presure plate, sounds like the release bearing did not engauge into the snap ring in the presure plate there is a certain proceedure for that, you may have to take it back apart.

Hyundai Accent '95. No reverse, and now no 1st and 2nd gear at all. Feels as it something metal is in the way.

is this a manual transmission ? You may have a problem with the clutch plates, clutch cable or if hydraulic the clutch master cyclinder .
The clutch is two plates of metal that rub together to allow the gears to move the car. When you push the pedal in the plates come apart to allow you to change the gears. If the clutch plates wear out or do not touch the gear box will not go into gear. It will feel like something is stopping the gear from going in. It could also be a syncromesh problem. I have a car that intermittantly does not go into reverse but I put the clutch pedal out and back in and it goes away,

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.

I had the exact same problem in my V6 Camry. The problem turned out to be bad clutch hydraulic cylinders. I replaced the clutch master cylinder (on the firewall) and the clutch slave cylinder (on the transaxlwe), the problem was eliminated.

Replace your clutch hydraulic cylinders, and you will be fixed right up.

Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today.

The squeaking would have either been caused by the clutch release bearing or the pilot bearing in the crankshaft if it has one (pilot bearing). It doesn't really matter as the transmission has to come of to repair either of these. It is hard to tell what you were describing, but whatever you do, don't spray any more WD 40 at anything! It will ruin your clutch and clutch fluid if it comes in contact with either. If the clutch fluid reservoir gets low, only use new brake fluid to top it up.

To change gears, I need to fully press down on my clutch pedal to stop a grinding noise on my hyundai accent 2001Can I adjust the clutch cable,

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

In a manual 2001 Hyundai Accent, the clutch cable could be adjusted. The adjustment point is on the cable 'pad' where it enters the firewall in the engine compartment.
To adjust, the slack or free play must be decreased. This is done by turning the adjusting nut clockwise. Check back by pressing on the clutch pedal to your preference.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
