Question about 2001 Lincoln LS

2000 LINCOLN/LS/3.9L V8 FI DOHCwont start ticking noise

My friend gave me his 200 lincon ls because he could never fix this problem...
when i go to start it the lights come on but it just starts to tick but doesnt start i have a problem like this i was driving down the road tho and my car just shut off. all the lights on the dash came on. when i went to start it the single tick happend. we tryed to turn the crank but it didnt turn. i assume the motor is bad. could it be anything else or any way to fix with a decent price tag.

    yes it is. what would you recomend i do. if the crank wont turn does this mean the motor is shot

    and no i didnt take out of park but i dont c how that would do anything that is the tranny i thought. its worth giving a try tho

    thank you for your awnsers. but i got one more for you my tranny will not go into reverse. but if i mess with it then it will and i dnt mean mess with it like its linkage i mean like moving in and out of park and drive all of them realy and then into reverse it might kick in after about 5 mins or so of doing that

Have the battery terminals checked - sound like a loose battery terminal. As u go over a bump it can cut out the engine then u dont have a good enough contact to run the starter. Get someone to try to crank as you wiggle the battery leads if it cuts the lights on the dash intermittently theres your prolem. Also check the ground wires to the motor.

    did u take it out of Park b4 you tried to turn the crank? That engine hard to turn over from the crank pulley anyway even in neutral!... Dont force it, that will not solve anything.

    My guess is that if the motor is bad, you woulda heard a noise when it failed. to lock the motor like that you have to either mess up the transmission or slow 1/4 ton of moving parts to a standstill in one go... this usually means a loud noise somewhere along the line....

    I assume its an auto?

    u cant turn the crank in Park. The transmission will prevent the engine turning.

    A breaker bar will do just what it says it does...break it lol.

    You have to put the key in the ON position and select neutral - then u can turn the crank.

    I musta been drinkin lol - the engine will be V hard to turn with the spark plugs in - there'll be at least 2 cylinders compressing at any one time so if you want to turn the crank manually removing some/all the plugs would e advised. U are right about the starter, but on some autos, Neutral and Park can be slightly different in terms of effort required to turn the crank. Most of your resistance will be cylinder compression unless the starter gear is locked in the crank. Still, be really careful as the pulley bolt is not designed to crank the engine.

    Have a look at the transmission fluid on the end of the dipstick. If its not clear reddish and has gone dark red/black and not transparent & smells bad then I would guess that the fluid hasnt been changed in a long time.

    Deteriorated fluid can cause shift problems. It probably needs to be changed. If it isnt that bad then adding a transmission conditioner can often help. What is probably happening is that solenoids are sticking inside the trans and not allowing proper shifting...is it heavy/hard shifting thru the gears in drive?

Replacing alternator on 2002 lincon ls v8


Linda, Alternator will be removed from bottom of vehicle, remove 3 bolts and wires/plug, scrape knuckles and swear a little. After all unbolted, it can still be very hard to remove from the tight area. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

If you think that cutting the wire is what is causing your car to not start. I would say that the solution would be to splice the wire back together.

there are diagrams try looking at the book that came with the car or look under the hood for it some where near the front, if this dosnt work try going to a website or autozone and buy the book for the car

I got mine from HELM.Com and they are real pricy but worth every penny. You will need the Emission manual also,but won't want to part with that money any time soon but you need it or your done before you start.

After starting up and putting in reverse it jerks and maks clanking noise 2000 lincoln ls v8 3.9


I would have to guess it is your rear u-joint is going to have to be replaced. Or your pinion in the rear end is loose or faulty.
