Question about 2003 Kia Spectra

Getting too much fuel and its flooding the car causing it to die.

That is what I was told anyway. What cause this and the car only had 44,000 miles on it and I bought it used and have been having all kinds of trouble with it. Any advice????

Well my jeep runs great when it wants but here latley its been missing but only when a rev it up or first started. iv been trying to figure out what it is but i dont know and its been fouling my sparkplugs...

no year car, no jeep modle . no engine told. (strike 3?)
is it a ww2 jeep?
get it serviced? ever consider that?

do you have a shop full of tools and know how?
flooding has many causes. and many tests.
ill not list them all , have done so many times.

MISFIRE. (Causes) google this words yet?
flooding, causes.
is fuel pressure too high,? you dont know.
are injector leaking, (you dont have the tool to do leak down and balance tests)
got bad spark , and no scan tool to see P0300 codes? p03xx ?
you fail. 1993 to now 1996 , has newer codes.)
1: BAD ENGINE , compression bad, or vacuum bouncing. (runs great so...)
2: bad spark ,scan it yet.? give it a 60k mile tune up this decade?
3: bad fueling, (floods, for many reason)
4: bad fuel>?

1993 pontiac grand prix 3.1 le stalls at normal driving speed and is hard to restart.After it restarts I can hold the gas down and put it gear and take off.It runs great with accellerator opened up wide.

that is flooding, (lots of causes that)
that throttle hold down is in the operators guide, called WOT unflood mode. it cut fuel 100% it starts via, excess fuel, in engine.
clears then starts and runs.
ever do a full tuneup?
Flooding. (engine good)
bad spark. Cold starts need perfect spark , unlike a hot engine.
so tune up time, for most cars 60,000 miles, some need sparks
every 39k (RTM read the manual in glove box,) it tells you.
as does the FSM state this, and how.
If flooding is not tune up related, then it is>
1: leaking injectors.
2: too high fuel pressure.
3: bad inputs to the PCM (like ECT reads too low temp) scan IT.
4: ISC stuck closed ,staring, the engine of air as start.
to test this #4 theory, (told in newer car operators guides) is to
start car with 10% throttle , start now? that may prove ISC stuck closed.

ever examine spark plugs, they speak volumn's.
these are new plugs, and are soaking in raw fuel.
on old plugs. its hopeless. (even weaker spark)
we use tools to find cause, got tools?

could it be a high pitch knocking like a ticking-this would be a lifter thats not pumping up right any-it may be time for oil change to winter oil-5w20-oil change could help anyway-cheers Denny

Car started only after several cranks, was told fuel pump replacement, is it normal with 68,000 miles?

You probably have a submersable pump. If you have run the gas on below 1/4 tank for some time, you probably burned out the pump. Alway fill up 1/2 tank or more.

And with the mileage, it isn't unusual to replace the pump.

When i step on the accelerator hard the engine almost dying

This can be a number of things, so I'll give you a check list:

Check spark plugs, wires. coil, cap, and rotor. if they arent giving enough spark when you accelerate the car will want to die cause your flooding it out .

Check your fuel filter, if the engine cant get enough gas to support accelleration it will want to die

check your exhaust. If you converter or other exhaust component is getting clogged the engine wil have to much back pressure and dog under acceleration.

Check your air filter, if it is dirty it can starve the engine for air and your car will want to die,

and finally (hopefully not your problem) you could have a faulty fuel pump. If your fuel pump goes bad your system wont have enough pressure in the gas lines to your fuel regulator and cause the same problem.

Rule out the other stuff first, cause a new fuel pump gets pricy. If you purchase everything elts I mentioned before buying a new fuel pump you would still be under 25% of the cost for a new pump

Bought used 2008 Malibu 44,000 miles. Beautiful,

Was there a head wind?
I would say try it a little longer at different speeds and situations.
They are know to be VERY GOOD on fuel.

dont think it is a fuel issure sounds like a MASS AIR PROBLEM if a car is stalling while driving and will not starts but cranks its one of two things a fuel prob. or an air problem i would first check your idle air valve as well *** your tps sensor if this is happening while you drive the vehicle it sounds like at some point there is either too much air or fuel in chambes causeing missfire inturn shutting down the engine reason for not starting again is simple if its too much fiel its flooded and if it's not enough air your engine cant start if it starts after 3 hours sounds like enough time for all fumes to have subsided in chamber and again allowing for a clean start up check tps and idle air valve as well as mass air flow
