Question about 1989 Audi 80
On all audi 80s I have seen, the central locking system is driven by a vacuum pump. If the systm does not work it can either be the pump, or a problem with the wiring, or even just a fuse.
The vacuum pump should be located underneath a round cover under the carpet in the right front of the trunk. If this gives any sound when you lock/unlock the doors, there is probably something wrong with either the pump or the vacuum lines. If the pump has no sign of life you should troubleshoot with a multimeter to find out if it is the pump or the wiring that is defect.

Central locking works based on electronic motors. If it is not working it could be anything to do with a loose connection to a faulty circuit.
